How do you respond when someone tells a rude joke?

I was at a dinner party (for work) not too long ago when someone told a rude and insensitive joke towards the end of his speech. I did not laugh at the joke and did not toast the speech. My bf thought I should have went along with the joke bc I have to work with these people but I think that I should not have to put up with ignorant and offesive jokes when I am at a workplace function.

I think what you did was right .
Because these people is going to one day embarass you, whether it is going to be a joke or just a stupid remark, what are you going to do then , if you laugh now you are going to be expected to laugh than or you are going to be judged as hypocrite.
I think you put your rules down from the beginnig , they should respect them and you should keep them at a distance.

I did not even think of that but you are right, it probably would just become worse as time went on. Thanks for the response!
