Once you have a dane you'll never want another kind of dog. I've heard this said among other dane enthusiasts I know. I was just wondering how much of a true statement this is. I know from personal experience my dane was the best dog I've ever had. He died tragically and I have yet to find another dog like him. I have not had another dane yet so I don't know if it is just a dane or have I had a string of bad luck after my precious angel, Max died.

It's ture. Dane's are one of a kind, they are so smart, caring, protective. We have a Dane now her name is Red and she is fantastic, with our small children, and really just great to be around. My Dad had them growing up and Loves them also. Sorry about Max.

Glad to hear about how they are with children. I do not have a dane, and I just lost my sheppard/rotti mix, but I have always wanted a dane (and a pug). I love big dogs, and well, danes fit that match. How are danes as puppies, do they have a bad puppy stage where they destroy everything, like boxers?

Your right. The Great Dane is more like a child than a dog . Once you have a dane there is no other breed for you. I am sorry for your loss . I have 6 danes and would not live without one . You can see them here http://www.wolkedanes.com . Do you have photos of Max?
