How can you tell if you'r breathing trouble is caused by copd of if it is something else? I have been diagnosed with emphasema and I have had 2 serious breathing attacks, but when I read about copd online it just didnt seem like what had happened. the first attack came on while I was asleep and I woke up fighting to breath, it took 15 hits on my inhailer before i could get any air at all. the second one I was chewing gum and it was really strong and I started to choke so I spit it out but then I had another breathing attack. the gum is a new kind and has an allergy warning on the pack.

The best way to find out if you have COPD is to make an appointment with your doctor. I'm not a doctor so this is just a guess, but I would think that if you have emphasema there is a good chance you also have COPD. I have COPD with emphasema. I am supposed to be on oxygen but since I don't have health insurance, I couldn't keep up with the monthly payments and had to return the machine. Thank goodness for my inhaler.
