Please know that I think it is a very hard job and so therefore they should be paid very well, but what about those of us who can not afford that kind of pay! I mean I just want to work part time but all the part time jobs only pay me like $10 to $15.00 an hour, I have to pay a sitter the same so it is not even worth it for me to get a part time job it seems, I would not make anything out of it.
Then if I got a full time job I could make pretty good money but OMG, looking at even a live out nanny would still cost me like $17 to $40 an hour...YEAH! so what am I missing here, is it better to just not work until the kids are in school because holy crap I am not going to find anyone....what would you do?

I am a stay at home mom, but I also babysit during the morning from about 7:30 - roughlt 1:30 and I charge 125 a week. Which is pretty good, I have heard of other sitters who charge much much more.
Soon though I will be heading back to work part time about 18-30 hours a week and I found a neighbor who is willing to charge me 175 for my infant. Which is also pretty good.
If I were you I would figure out what the going rate is in your town/neighborhood and charge that for sitting, or hopefully find a work from home job. Maybe as a virtual assistant.

that is really good. I am lucky if I can get someone for $10.00 an hour, and I was willing to offer up to $200 a week...but even if I offered that I would have to do more than part time work.
Yeah I am goign to look into the Virtual Assisting at this point in time, I just do not have any other choice I think. The goign rate is about $10 to 15 an hour and if they have to drive around they charge a bit more

My neighbor is on a limited income and could use the extra money especially off the books. She is a kind person with a loving heart. I believe she is willing to watch my infant more because she loves him than to make a profit off of it.

If you have no one else to take care of your children while you work then i would wait until the youngest starts kindergarten. I was lucky when my son was younger because we had family to take care of him while i still worked. When we moved to USA we decided it was best that I stayed home to take care of him until he starts school later in the year. Daycare and Nannys are expensive and by staying home and taking care of him I saved a lot more that way.

I don't know. I don't have kids yet but I think what is going to happen is that my friends and I are going to take turns. One of my friends has suggested that we each work part time and then take the hypothetical children while the other is working.
Because I am self employed, I have a bit of flexibility in the time that i work, so I think that when we have kids, I'll work in the evenings and watch the kids during the day, and my husband will work during the day and watch the kids in the evening.

I have an idea; what about bartering? My friend barters guitar lessons for childcare. This may not take care of all your problems and you might have to still spend some money but not as much.

I am fortunate that my MIL watches my kids for free, otherwise it would defeat the point of working. IT's a shame that childcare is so expensive, and for those of us with more than one child the cost would be astronomical. The way I see it you have two options...either wait until the kids are in school before going back to work, or work an opposite shift from your spouse if possible so he is home with the kids. It puts a strain on your personal life, but if you really need the income. If you are just interested in making a little extra you can work from home. I work full time during the day and supplement my income by working from home at night after the kids go to sleep. The website is www.workathomeagent.com if you're interested. You won't make a fortune, but there is no start up, they provide all the training and the schedule is very flexible. AFter I signed up it took about two weeks to get started, but the pay has been steady. Good luck to you!!
