In my opinion, it's no longer just about raag, allap, sur and taal. Theres a lot more that people want to hear and see. I can see many singers these days who don't have much knowledge of raag, sur and taal but people still want to hear them. Mauli has something unique in her voice all she needs is some training to brush up. Offcourse raag taal and sur are the soul of music but people want variety aswell. Talking about sonu although he's a very trained singer but he sings just about any song if u see his concerts he performs different styles of singing. So the bottomline they have to be more than a singer to be popular :)
