If my hands are free then I will try to remember to cover my mouth when I yawn, though sometimes I forget or am too tired to care. :P And if my hands aren't free (because I'm driving, holding my kids hands, etc), then I have no choice but to yawn without covering my mouth. So what about you? Do you cover your mouth when you yawn? Please share your thoughts. Thanks! :)

Yeah I cover my mouth when I yawn. If I have something in my hand then I turn around and then yawn.

Did you know that yawning is contagious. My 9th grade science teacher told me. If you see someone yawning then you yawn and a whole other bunch of people. It's kind of weird because the same day he said that someone yawned then he yawned and then some other people yawned.

Oh I think it is too. If I see someone yawn I usually yawn too. LOL Sometimes I try to keep it in, though most of the time it's just to impossible to hold in and the yawn comes on out. :P LOL

A cute face while yawning? I'd find that a bit difficult to do when I'm yawning. :P LOL But if I need to I'll make the funny face! That doesn't sound so hard to do while yawning! LOL

Hahaha! I wouldn't want people to see down my throat either. LOL If people are that close I tend to stifle my yawn. :P

Yeah, I cover my mouth when I yawn. I think it is ingrained in me because my mom really tried to teach my sister and I manners. So it kind of just stuck. If I'm alone, I might not cover my mouth, or if I am driving with a relative, I probably won't cover my mouth. But I just think it is polite. Have you ever seen someone yawn, and flying spittle comes out, LOL? Yuck!

Most of the time I do but sometimes I have yawned without covering my mouth when I can't be bothered or too tired to do so.

Yes, its always been a habit. I mean I don't even think about it. It's like a reaction, my hands just happen to go and cover my mouth during a yawn. The same thing is with coughing. I always cover my mouth without even thinking. It's a good thing to do though so I am not complaining neither am I intending to change my habits.

Its against aticates if you don't put a hand in front of your mouth and covering it when you are yawning. I also cover my mouth when I yawn. I was reading in the newspaper last week that scientists thought that human beings yawn because the body giving them an indication to have some sleep but the new research has revealed that while a human being yawns, the body sends out a message in form of yawn to wake up or you can see keep waking.

To me yawning is just like coughing or sneezing.
You should cover your mouth!
So yes I always cover my mouth and if my hands are full and I can't cover my mouth (you only need one hand to yawn, driving doesn't interfere for me as I can drive with one hand unless I'm turning) then I typically use my shoulder. It's awkward and weird but ha ha it's what I do!

Driving doesn't always interfere with yawning for me either, but sometimes there are times when it calls for both hands being on the wheel and if I feel a yawn coming on then there is nothing else for me to do, but yawn! :P

I usually cover my mouth, but there are times when my hands aren't free to do so. Also, if I'm all alone, sometimes I don't. I do tend to stifle my yawns if I'm involved in a conversation. I don't what whoever I'm talking to to think that I'm bored.

I remember a time I was talking to my friend over the phone. I was so tired and I kept yawning, which of course made her yawn. LOL She got a little peeved with me and asked me if I was bored. LOL I honestly wasn't, but I couldn't seem to hold my yawns in either. She ended up telling me to go to sleep, so we got off the phone and I took a nap. :P

Oh dear, this is one of my pet hates! Obviously if you have your hands full of squirming child or are driving the open mouth is the only option, but people who open mouth yawn, particularly if they do so close to my face, really irritate me. I used to have my niece and nephew and their little pals round and some days I had four open mouths winding me up for the pure fun of it.
It was unfortunate that the Prime Minister's wife often indulged in this habit and I always felt infuriated since she is in so many ways a gracious lady and she just had to let herself down.
Maybe I am just an old fuddy-duddy.

I'd have to agree with you. I try to cover my mouth whenever I can however if I am alone or doing something importnat with my hands I will not.

Its an absolute must to cover your mouths when you yawn. I do so and advise others to follow me as well. Fact is that it looks ugly if you keep your mouth open while yawning.

The reason why we yawn is when we are tired. It is the body's call to remind you to rest. As such, I only yawn when it is at night. No, I do not cover my mouth. I just let it out. It is a form of stress reliever. However, as yawning is "contagious", I try to yawn with my mouth closed when there are people around. I do not want everybody to start yawning, especially when I am feeling sleepy after lunch in office.

I will always cover my mouth when i yawn, partly i do not want anyone to know that i am doing that! especially during long boring meetings... in extreme cases, i even force my mouth shut, which i heard is not good.. as you will get cramps in your mouth area.
hahah when i laugh, i tend to cover my mouth too. Wonder if it is a " good" habit brought from home? or a subconscious thought that it would be more lady like? =D
