Has anyone had a hysterectomy or endometrial ablasion?

After my last delivery (my one and only c-section) and started to have really heavy, heavy cycles and very painful. Two years ago the doctor ran tests for cancer, fibroids, etc. and nothing. They have no reason for the pain. They sent me in for an endometrial ablasion (burns off the lining of the uterus so you do not get your period anymore nor can you have babies). The procedure basically blew a hole thru my uterus and needless to say, was not successful. They then did a D&C and that helped for about 2 cycles. My doctor at the time frowned upon a full hysterectomy saying it would put into menopause at 33. They said if they did a partial and kept my ovaries in I would still have the pain because because my body would still ovulate. Any suggestions or comments on if you have had either procedure and what was it beneficial or do you regret having the hysterectomy. I can't have any more children anyway because my uterus could not hold another baby full term and people have told me that you feel less of a woman after a hysterectomy. Is that true?

I felt like less of a woman after mine. The reason I did was because of the inability to have babies, which you have already gone through, so I would think that the worst has already happened. Now it is just a matter of sematics in your situation. I recognize for my situation that it HAD to happen, but that doesn't mean I had to like it. I still lament that everything is gone sometimes (and I'm 37). It becomes part of our identity and it is hard to let it go. I have four children, so it's not like I wanted to keep having them, but the ability is gone, and that effects a woman deeply. I hope, if you decided to undergo the procedure, that it went well and that you have found a way to come to terms with the changes that have happened. I take soemthing called "estrogel" in order to keep from going into menopause just yet. It's estrogen in a bottle. Do you take anything like that?

I had a hysterectomy at age 33 also and I did not feel any less a woman. Istill have my ovaries but never had any more pain or any other problems Ihad two children and that was really all we could afford. I am a senior citizen now but I never regretted having the surgery as it was necessary for my good health. hope this helps a bit. good luck and God bless.

hi.Did you try the oral contraceptives or the progesterone injectible? If you still have intractable pain I suggest the total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingooophorectomy.I suggest that you read on endometriosis and ask your doictor about it.You should seek the help of obgyn reproductive endocrinologist.

My cycles during my teen years were similar to what you are having. They couldn't explain why I was in so much pain or bleeding so heavily either. Being put on the pill took care of it. I had the Ablation done 9 months ago and have been very happy with it. My mother had a partial hysterectomy at age 30 and she was OK with it. I would read up as much as you can on menopause and ways to deal with it and then see if dealing with the monthly cycle or menopause is the better option.
