Do You Have A Home Gym Or A Gym Membership?

To me it would be ideal to have a home gym, but some of my friends don't agree. One of my friends told my that she needed to exercise, but did not have time to go to the gym. I suggusted that she get a home gym. The way she responded, one would think that I had told her to get a cleaver and cut the fat herself. I did not ask her why she reacted that way, I really didn't want to know. I just assumed that it had something to do with being vain. Some people are probably shallow enough to want people to think that they don't have to work and sweat like everyone else to get into shape. Going to the gym can also be fun, especially if you are single and want to impress someone with your workout. The single are always looking for good places to mingle. How about you, home gym or gym membership?

I used to be a member of a fitness club called Curves. I'm not sure if you have those around you or not. I did really well for the first two months, but then it went to waste for me. I kept putting off going and getting bored with it overall. You only exercise for 30 minutes, but you go in a circle around the same machines the whole time. It got boring. We have another gym that is pretty cool, but it's also expensive and I know I wouldn't go enough to get the full benefits of having a gym membership. I would get more use out of a home gym. My husband and I have a few pieces of exercise equipment, but our apartment is too small for all of it right now. I think we are setting up some kind of gym in our basement eventually. My sister-in-law has some good equipment and she lives close, so we use her stuff sometimes. I need to do a better job with keeping in shape.

I think that I have heard of Curves before, I will look it up and see. What you were describing sounds like the Aerobic Curcuit system. I use that back when I was in community college. What I would do to make it interesting was to wear my walkman while I was working out. I would actually clip it to the collar of my T-shirt to keep it from getting in the way or falling off and breaking. I kow what you mean about it being boring.

LOL...I should have brought music with me! They always played this really horrible CD of Oldies, but not by the original artists. I can dig me some Oldies, but the people singing them on this CD were terrible. Another thing about Curves that kinda bothered me was that everyone would stare at each other while going around in the circle. I would try to advert my eyes, but you know how it is to feel like people are staring at you!

I myself have a home gym. In the past I did have a membership which I paid 1,000.00 dollars for. What a waste...There was no way that I could even make it to the gym that much to make up for that money I spent, then you have to wait for certain machines and then you cannot use those machines for more than so many minutes at a time. Then you have better looking people (to me) look at you like you are so beneath them. I hated it. So after I had my kids I bought a treadmill which was 500.00 dollars and I get to use that any amount of time I want, and then some weights, the ball, some kinda power rope....So yes I am so much happier at home.

I understand this completely. I am the same way. I have been very shy all my life. They love to see people like me join their gym, because I leave and never come back. Actually I am trying to find an workout that best fits me and my needs.

we have a treadmill, swimming pool, and a lovely exercycle in our home. Combining the cost of all of this, it was still cheaper and easier to buy them, than a membership to the gym. It is right there, and there is no excuse for not using them except laziness.

I am a dancer, so I have cleared out a room to make a "studio" until I can afford actual dance studio space for myself, and it works really well. I am probably one very odd and weird - and maybe insane by some people's definition - in that I have always loved exercise and physical activity. It really IS fun. The trick is to find something that works for you - an activity you enjoy. If you are passionate about it or are having fun doing it, then you won't dread it. I never had a gym membership, but before I started managing my own dance career, I was a member of a company at a studio. I do miss that environment for the same reasons you mentioned about going to the gym - all the other people there that can share support for one another. Having to do it alone certainly does take greater self-motivation... But I'd say both home exercising and gym memberships are beneficial... whatever gets you moving! =)

Yes, a partner is a definite plus in things where we need to be motivated. I know that dancers have to be very disciplined. I dance for fun and it is very enjoyable for me and my friends. They don't see how I do it. Truth be told, I don't either. I am usually so clumsy.

LOL I have a gym membership, a really cheap one for 3 days a week and I joined to get myself motivated and out of bed and out of the house. They also had a daycare where I could take my son with me, so $19 a month + $5 a month for daycare is affordable for me. I have not used it over the last 6 weeks because I just got plain lazy LOL but when my son goes to school, its off to the gym for me, I have 8 months to lose more weight for my sister in laws wedding. If I had the $$ and the room, I would invest in a home gym just so I can do everything at my home in my time. Having to work against a bus timetable and the times the gym is open/closed is annoying and sometimes when I get there the daycare attendant is sick so I can't exercise. The gym gives me another reason to get out of the house. It will be a lot more easier soon when my son starts school.

I know what you mean about the bus. Doing something that could take a driver, maybe one hour is an all day thing for me when I take the bus. It is sad because I really have a desire to learn to drive, but God hast to find a way to make that happen.

I've belonged to a gym for years, but after I had kids and wasn't able to go as often, I started working out at home. I found that with a skipping rope, a Swiss ball, some free-weights and resistance bands, I could still get a great workout at home. I still like going to the gym when I can and using some of the cardio machines that are only available there. I have an elliptical machine at home, but I love the more challenging staircase climber at the gym. Since I'm not single, the last thing I want to do there is meet anyone, but I agree that it would probably be a good place to mingle, if I was.

It is cool that you are able to get a good work out at home and you don't have to try to find time to go to the gym. This makes a lot of sense and is much easier on everyone in the household I am sure.

I have a gym member ship at a club nearby.. I go to gym everyday in the evening and I spend roughly 1 and a half hour everyday... Setting up a gym at home is quite expensive and all the machines require lot of maintainence as well.. Si, its always better for me to go to gym...
