Don't See American People as Focused on Issues as They should Be

I have talked to many people in recent months about the future of our nation. There are a number of things I am focusing on that could and probably will be disastrous. For the most part I don't see people being concerned or focused on these things. It seems that most people are focused on the day to day things like making money, having better things, etc. I believe that we are in serious trouble and I refuse to place my head in the sand and just hope that these problems will go away. I guess you could compare it to Nero fiddling while Rome burned. I think we should be prepared for anything.

yeah..we should be prepared for anything that may happen.. but i think we have to focus things firstly like making money ,having better things & living a better life.. these r the daily problems and ,to some degree ,compared with big events about a nation or the world, they'r the most important things that we should solve to ourselves,, it's just my own opinion...^_^

Sorry, sylvia, but I don't think these things would matter half as much if you were confronted by the wolf at your door.

Worldwise, You are so right about the apathy that is reflected in our political system today.I don't think we've had a concentrated effort to change things in this country since the Vietnam Era. Sometimes I think that we're all caught up in a whirlpool that we can't escape. The more difficult life becomes the harder we must work to stay above it all to prevent from drowning,But the changes come so hard and fast that we don't have the energy left to make the necessary changes or call for action. Another problem is the fact that throughout our history the media also called(the fourth estate) kept us informed of various flaws and issues that were occuring in the the political arena.Today however they just accept the "leaks" and report them as facts without ever checking sources(irresponsible)like they did previously. The call to war spewed by the current administration is a perfect example of the media not doing their job and questioning all the WMD claims and Al-Queda ties etc.. It was all Lies,Lies,Lies. The Three branches of government that are suppose to be equal in power and provide checks and balances has become a complete joke. The Executive branch now dictates everything.ie..wiretaps,spying I really believe that we will go the way of the ROMAN EMPIRE if people don't stand up and begin to get our system back into balance.

I agree that we should do something before it is too late , but I don't think we will because people are too busy working and buying the stuff they need. For years there have been a riff between politicians and the people and now it is the grand cannon. The issues that the people want addressed are ignored by Congress and local govs so many people have tuned them out.so you have the passionate people out on their own trying to get people's attention and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.These days it may not be that people don't care, they just don't know what is going on.Think about it. If you are working two jobs and you don't use the internet to get your news or you don't watch the right type of television shows, you are in the dark. And if the disaster doesn't happen to you , you can stay in the dark.Politicians think that an uninformed public is best so they can mold policy better. But an uninformed public will simply ignore the politicians' policy if it interferes with their lives. The people and the government have to work together to change anything.

Most people don't care about anything that doesn't directly effect them. Its sometimes hard to worry about the big picture when you have a hard time taking care of your kids, paying the bills, etc. We expect and hope that the leaders we have put in office will take care of the big picture for us, but often times they don't and the American people need to be more vigilant, I agree. Even I could be better about considering the goings on of the world, but more often I just get caught up in my daily life.

Sometimes it may seem overwhelming for someone to think that they can make a change. By ignoring the problem it won't go away. We have to figure out a way to fix what is wrong and make it better. I do believe we have gotten so fixed on our day to day that we have forgotten the big picture, and that right there spells disaster.
