One of my friends is too crazy for Harry Potter books . The volume of the books in this series repulses me . Too heavy . More after watching the movie of the same name , I thought there is nothing serious to read . But I cannot outrightly reject anything without testing the thing . Moreover, the huge reader community behind the book cannot be ignored . There must be something that absorbs such a huge public . I want too know the fact . What is there in the story ?

I think first of all you must enjoy reading...for you to say the volume "repulses" you, it sounds like you only like shorter books, if at all? Personally, I put off reading this series for a long time, thinking it was just for kids. One of my friends convinced me to read the first and then I was hooked. I love fantasy and magic anyhow, and there is just an excellent quality of storytelling in this series. I'm disappointed that it will be ending so soon. As for the movies, honestly they don't hold a candle to the books. They are cute but too campy for my taste.

I amm totaly with you I love harry potter read it all the time colectivly I have read the 7 books around 50 times and the books are much better than the movies, in the movies so many things are left out and thats the reason I dont like movie No4, No 1,2 and 3 were smaller books so most things got included but N04 not the case I have not seen No 5 but we are probably going tomorow.

I agree with you on how movies leave a lot out. It's hard to include everything from a large book when you need to condense it into a two hour movie.

It's hard to explain. But my only advice is this, forget the movie, the merchandise and most specialy Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. READ THE BOOK then judge for yourself. Harry Potter is not just a hype, there is something in there that makes it special and a cut above the rest.

Well, it's a great story. It's about a boy whose parents were murdered when he was just one year old. He was sent to live with relatives who hated him and treated him badly. Then when he was 11 years old he was told that he is a wizard and whisked off to a magical world and school where he is somebody special and he has special skills and all of a sudden things start to make sense and fall into place for him. It's a classic good vs. evil story where good prevails. You'd really have to read the book to see that it is something serious. It sounds like you've seen the movie but keep in mind that, while the movie is excellent, the book is always better. And it explains everything that the movie cannot possibly include. So I agree that you cannot reject it without testing and the movie is not a good test of the book. The book is mysterious, magical, full of twists and turns and puzzles to solve. It's just great. You know, the first book is the shortest of them all. It's fast reading. Give it a try to see what the excitement is all about.
