This is a great festival held every year near me. Well about 50 miles away but near enough and fun enough to travel to see. My niece called Saturday asking if I'd go with her this year. I agreed but not a date set yet. This is a fun filled even with many actors portraying people and events from the Village year 1600 or so. Many states in the USA have these great events yearly. I've been to this one here and in Michigan many years ago.
Village year 1600
Theme: Renaissance
There is camping for participants only, by application. Coin operated showers. Shop residency requires special permit. Electric restricted availability at flat rate.
Alcohol policy: sold on site, no BYOB
Patron Costume policy: 16th century costumes encouraged
Weapons must be peace tied, NO FIREARMS allowed
Register pets at gate with fee and sign waiver
These are some of the statements for actors/participants for this month long event here in Minnesota. They have Jousting, juggling, leather crafts, jewelery, comedy skits, and many other things done all set in the 1600's. A fun time for the whole family. Have you been to one?http://www.renaissancefest.com/MRF/home.html

You are so lucky - there are not really any good Renaissance Fairs near here. There is one about an hour's drive away in spring, but it's not that good.

We have a Renaissance Festival here in New York too. But I have never been to it. I keep saying I want to go. Maybe someday.

Yes, I am talking about the one in Sterling. I didn't know it had been for sale either.

The jousting is one of the best things I enjoy seeing. You really ought to get to it this year. You'd have a blast. I end up going a couple times to catch everything usually so much there to see.

I have never been to a Rennaisance Fair. It sounds not only like fun, but a good history teaching method for childen.
I guess the Rennausance is not applicable in Auistralia.
Perhaps we should have "convict fairs"?

I've never been to one. And there's one every year not too far from where I live. They look like a lot of fun, but somehow, I just never seem to be able to make it. A friend of mine participates in one of the festivals every year, and he has posted pictures of himself on his web page. I love the costumes that the participants wear. They are so awesome. One of these years, maybe I'll shock everyone including myself and actually make it to the local festival. LOL

I really do enjoy going to the renaissance festivals when they come around to our area. My daughter loves to get the princess hats and get her face painted and we walk around and snack at different eateries and move on to other events like the joust or the human chess board and so on. It isn't very expensive and you do a lot of walking! That and I just love the ambiance and the setting.

Here I think it is around $16 per adult each day for admission. They have a comedy duo called Puke-N-Snot that are absolutely hilarious. I have a friend that makes home made suede thigh high boots and other sizes as well as sandals there also. I love the Jousting the best.

That sounds absolutely hilarious! What a comedy duo! At the last one we went to, we had the Whiley Wenches. They were so funny, we saw the show twice during the day. My daughter thought they were just too much. I try to go home during the Rennaissance Fair times so my brother and I can go together as a family.

My daughter and her husband use to be involved in a group who worked the renaissance festival. Her husband was on of the guards for the Queen. My daughter just dressed out. I hope make some of my son in-law's outfits. I love going and seeing all the wears for sale. I love the food and the showes.
I know you will have a great time, I know it will be great to see your neice.

Hey that sounds like fun! I like anything historical in nature.. I've been to some "mainstreet days" around where I live.. and they usually feature historical garb and such.. Good times! And reminds us of a simpler times..

We have the Renaissance Festival here --as I am in Michigan and you mentioned that you have been to ours... we have gone many times and I am so looking forward to going this year with my kids.... it starts Aug 22!! and I can not wait to go!!!
I know this is an older discussion for you, but I was going to start one on this and researched it and saw yours...thought I would revive it as it is getting close to Renaissance time again and I am anxious to take my son who is 6 and my daughter who is 18 months!!
I love the Renaissance fair.... last year we didnt get to go because of all the hurricanes that hit and hubby was called away for FEMA but so far things are quiet and there is no word of him going away to soon....so I am planning to get there early this year to make sure we go!!!!!
We dont have any of the costumes but I do wear a peasant top that fits in with some of the costumes --and my son has gotten 3 swords from there and he and hubby will carry one on there hips (they are just wood, but hey it is all in fun)
Will you be planning on going to yours this year?
