What's the best household cat toy?

When I was little we used to open up paper bags and let my cat, Angel, play in them. She loved them and she'd rattle around in her bag for hours until she hopped on top of it and squashed it. My cat loves playing with string dangling from a doorknob or in my closet. She's not overly playful, but she does enjoy string. I've also heard of people using tops of pop bottles, marbles, bouncy balls and boxes to entertain their kitties. What is your best found-in-the-house cat toy?

My cat Buster loved wadded up balls of paper. I would toss them and he would chase them, batting them around the kitchen floor with his front paws like a soccer ball. Then...when he was ready to have the paper thrown again, he would bring it back to me in his mouth like a dog with a tennis ball! Hours of fun.

AHAHAHAHA! OMG i have never heard of another cat that does this! my kitty, Lenore, used to play fetch with me. It was so cute and so funny. Of course, every time i threw the paper ball ihad to make the "pshheeww!" sound. HAHAHAH! She loved it. i wish she would still play with me like that.

Well my kitty plays a lot with match boxes. She just enjoys playing with it and also with anything that makes noise.

We used to scrunch up balls of aluminum foil and bat them around. Or my dad would take the boxes from things and make little doors and windows for the cats to go in and out, like little houses. But I think the cats' favourite was paper bags, too.

Well, unfortunately my cat loves my headphones. If i unravel them from around my iPod, she bats at them and sometimes tries to bite them. i can't help but smile because it is cute, but i tell her "No, Lenore. That's naughty!" and i won't let her play with them. Generally our 3 other cats don't mess with my headphones, but i HAVE caught my dad's cat, Timothy, having a chomp on them. He likes to chew on everyhing. He loves to chew cardboard bozed...he loves to chew string...when my mother or i crochet, we always end up with our yarn chewed in half. One year for my birthday, my mother crocheted a beautiful and very meaningful blanket for me. Well, durring my 2 year stay in the hospita, that naughty Timothy chewed through part of it and it is going to be a pain in the you know what to repair. my brother's cat, Carice, likes to play with my oxygen hose. SHe just stares at it and then will bat at it with her little hand and will stare a little more. She thinks it's a snake! We laugh at her.

Hi Breepeace, We've spent lots of money on things like the cat motels and scratching posts and whatever else. Our cats will not go anywhere near those things. A little ball with some catnip on it seems to be more fun than anything for them. They start rolling around on the floor and racing inbetween the furnture. Whenever we get a box from something they fight over who gets to sleep in it. All my best, Terry

The best cat toys I have for my cat is a plastic bag lying on the floor at all times except when I have to pick it up to clean the floor. The second best toy is a shoe string. My kitty doesn't like to play by himself. So tying the string to a door handle won't do much good. but he does so love his shoe strings. It's great how cats are so easily entertained.

We take a yard stick, and a ball of tin foil, tie the ball to the stick with a long string and just drag it around the floor, the cats love to chase it, grab it , swing on it,lol.

Well you hit it for mine, paper grocery bags. Man they love them things. I will put four in the kitchen floor and my three cats zoom from one bag to the next. It's a hoot to watch cause you would think there would be a huge crash, but they manage not to ever run in to each other.

The best thing that my cats loves are cardboard boxes, they play with them for hours, its funny because you would think that they would get with them, but no, they still keep coming back for more..

It has got to be the flash light. Shinning it around on the floor and having the cats run after it. Boy do they sleep well that night.

I think the paper bag wins the "best cat toy" award, hands (paws?) down. Even my cat, who is not a playful anymore, will still jog over to any paper bag left on the floor and jump in it. He also likes cardboard boxes, but mostly will just sit in them, not tear them up like the paper bags. If I drag a string around on the carpet, he will "hunt" it for a bit and pounce at it, but it doesn't keep his interest for long (or if I let go of the other end).

The best cat toy is cat toys with catnip in them at my house. each Christmas, each cat gets two or three catnip toys . They love them. The next best is an open cardboard box.

My cats love empty boxes and baskets. They also love to play in empty paper bags. They seem to like those better as toys more than the expensive toys I've bought at pet stores. Another fun toy: Fill an old sock with batting and catnip and knot the end. It'll provide your cats endless hours of play and is cheaper than store-bought toys.
