Has this ever happened to you?

Today I spent five minutes writing out a really cool discussion about computer monitors and just as I was about to click the post button, my computer shut down. Apparently, there was some type of electrical storm that tripped the power in our house. I was so disappointed! And, now I still haven't gotten around to posting the discussion. I keep telling myself that I will, but I just haven't done it yet. Has that ever happened to you? Have you ever been in the middle of posting a discussion, only to lose your work because the power went out? Did you immediately go back and try to post the same discussion?

That happened to me just yesterday, when I was trying to respond to your discussion about life insurance for children. It wasn't a power outage that did it to mine, though. It was my son! Usually I can catch him before he gets the button pushed, but yesterday I was distracted while I was writing, because I was talking to my husband, too. I did finally go ahead and respond to that discussion, but not until today. I just didn't feel like doing it last night after my son turned off my computer.

Oh no! My daughter does the exact same thing. I had to reprogram my computer so that when the button is pushed nothing happens. It just asks me if I want to turn off the computer. And, of course when I don't respond it continues to do nothing, until I realize what has happened. My computer usually gets unplugged when my daughter climbs under my computer table to get the cat. She says it's always an accident. I can only hope! We've had this discussion with her before. Thanks for dropping back by anyway. Always nice to hear your voice!

This thing happens to me all the time.In fact it happened just 5 minutes ago, when my net got cut and I lost my discussion. But,since I use Opera it is very easy to recover it and repost it again. But,yeah it really frustrates the hell out of you.

In the past when I used Windows 98 and such kind of accidents often happened. Now I use Windows XP and it is not likely to happen this accident any more. Sometimes I will meet problems when the IE browsers crash, so I lose my data input to Mylot.

this has happened very often to me - it's very annoying - you lose everything you have written for what seems to be centuries!!! However - there is nothing you can do. Or... maybe the only possible way is to wrte your post first in a writing program such as Microsoft Word - usually it saves some part of the article you are writing even in these worst case scenarios. If you are lucky enough you may even find that Word has saved all your document. And if you write a long in the web page - always press "CTRL + C" in some intervals - thus you may not experience my problems - loosing the internet connection and losing everything you have tried to post. Good luck!!

Yes, and you know what I did to my Dell Computer? I got my baseball bat and I threaten my computer with it. It never acted up again.

I have had that happen to me and it really is the pitts! And so darn frustrating too! And it never happens when its a discussion that I've only typed in a couple of sentences, no, it is always the discussions that I've typed in the most, like a paragraph or more. A lot of times I don't even go back and answer the question again. I'm not sure why, it just seems like the momentum for answering is gone.

I get that all the time and also when posting a response..I am on satellite and it cuts out quite a lot..If there are clouds or bad or rainy weather..Its really annoying sometimes, when you just get cut off..But I havnt received a power out, only once when my dog got caught in the power lead and reefed it out of the wall...

Yes absolutely! Do you notice that the second time around it never gets said as good as the first? Sometimes I completely give up on the way it was and simply start the discussion with the same topic but written completely different.

hahha that happned to me a lot of times, and most times after i wrote (in my opinion) particularly good posts. i would often go right back in and retype the whole thing again, but if i 'm really irritated at what happened i'd just stay off the computer for a while, no sense writing when i'm tense and hot-headed. one time though, i got back in and typed about my frustrations on the computer cranking out, and posted that one, LOL!

I get that a lot before...You should provide yourself with a UPS(un-interupted Power supply). When the power goes down your computer remains on for a few mins. this can give you time to save your work.

I have tried that. I bought a new hard disk and when I was formatting it. Suddenly, when it was going to be finished, my computer shut down. It was also due to some type of electrical storm. I have to format it again... Aaah!
