This is an incredible film. i had never even heard of it until my best friend, Jason (fromthemirror) told me about it and offered to bring it with him when he visited me this past week. One night, we sat on the couch and watched it. i was pretty much taken aback. Ashton Kutcher actually CAN act? WOW! This film would be great for a psychology and/or a philosophy class. It was done so incredibly well. i highly reccomend it. i saw both endings of the film and didn't much like either of them because i wanted him to get it all in the end...but the fact that he didn't actually added to the beauty and complexity and messsage of the film.
i guess i SHOULD give you all an idea of what it is like...
Ok, a boy suffers from selective amnesia. He completely blanks out at events and is unable to recall what happens. He keeps a journal and writes in it every day of his life from the time he is 7. He keeps these journals all his life. One day, he finds that if he goes back and reads what was written, he can time travel to that point in his life and make changes. He tries desperately to fix his life and the lifes of his friends, but he only succeeds in making things worse. He eventually finds himself in a mental hospital and goes back in time one last time to make his final changes.

amazing movie. im glad it was something you enjoyed. it really points out that no matter what course you take in your life your choices will make the path end up following. it also shows that if you go back in time to fix things that were messed up that it can also mess things up more because the things that were already written into fate are a fragile thing to mess with. something like that. good times. love you!

There are just some movies that you see and are never the same afterwards. Not better. Not Worse. Just not the same. Butterfly Effect was one of those for me. (So was Requiem For A Dream, Pi, and Sybil)

I saw that movie and it was awsome. It made sence to things that happen to everyday kids and teens, well just the ones who arent born with much money.
I really liked how they blew up that mail box, but ended up killing the kid i think or did they kill the woman.

Actually, both the baby and the mother die on the explosion durring the first timeline, but Evan goes back in time to save them and effectively blows off his arms...

wow, with your recommendation I may actually go out this weekend to get it and watch.
Is it really that good?
Cos I have seen Ashton acted in "That 70's show" and in some other movies where he really make a jerk of himself.
Even the series "Punk'd" did not change my impression of him.
That is why I have been having second thoughts about watching the Butterfly Effect for so long.
If the movie is as good as you say it is, then it is worth a watch.

OK, i agree, The Butterfly Effect is one of the best movies i've ever seen.
Although after watching it for the 5th time i started to search for the flaws of the movie. Like the time when his in prison and hi tries to prove to Carlos that he can actually travel in time. He goes back and makes some scars in his hand. Normally Carlos shouldn't have been able to see the scars from the first time because he made them when he was a little boy. Carlos stays in the same time-line. I'm looking forward to read more goofs but only about the logic of the movie.
