Grant information Is it for real or is it just a fluke?

For years I have been hearing about people getting grants from the government. For the last year I have been looking. I cant find anything. I have found those sites that give you a list ok that was fine I wrote to several and all of them have said that they dont do any grants!!! What is the deal and where do you get them????
