How do you change your avatar?

I see everyone with different pictures but I can't figure out how to change mine. I added a picture and thought that might do it but it didn't.

I was wondering the same myself just a few hours ago. If you see the green letters on the left, you will see edit your preferences. There you can upload a different picture for your avatar

this is how you can change yours..i had done this avatar many times and its really cool to do so depending on my moods..you go to edit preferences then from there you can see the avatar section first thing..just upload another picture and from there your avatar will change.
