According to my knowledge, this type of umbrella fielding was a common thing in past in Test matches. All 10 players were kept to have catches ratehr than stoping runs..But STEVE WAUGH do introduce this concept in ODI's.. Well, If u see the current aspect of the game, its becoming batsmen friendly. Pitches have been made flat. Runs are building and Boundaries are coming at a faster rate. In these circumstances, you can't set up a umbrella type fielding. It will be a completely foolish decision. If you remember,Steve Waugh do set this type of fielding against minnows and especially when the tailenders were there and the match was eventually won by Australians. So, this was more of a fun rather than a fielding tactic..
