Tommorrow (AUG 14th) is my birthday, I will be 25 yrs old, I have yet to work on my Birthday although ive held a job for 8 previous birthdays. (I have been working since I was 14 yrs old) Ive always taken at least that one day off, a few times the entire week. This year I will work for the first time, its not that I didnt take the time off, I took a week off at the end of july and spent it in Southwest Jersey, Atlantic City, and Philly. (had to take it early because the people I was staying with was able to have me at the time) and during the beginning of Sept ill be taking 2 days off for other reasons. So my question here is do you make an effort to take your birthday off? Whgat if you dont celebrate it that day? Do you care if you have to work on your birthday?

I have never been one to celebrate my Birthday, I was one of the few people who dreaded turning Twenty-One, I just wanted to stay a teenager I think, I don't tell anyone my birthday as when I was groing up I was so mega shy I would not have been able to handle the attention I just got in the habit of not telling anyone, today only a few of my special friends know.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, I as well don't celebrate, but it happens to be (usually ) the one time out of the year, I focus my energy on myself, whether its doing somehting I really need to do, or just being lazy, Im one of the people who always helps others and then gets the shaft in the end, so I can look forward to thinking about myself on my Bday and sometimes surrounding days

I hate my birthday. It's memorial day (May 30) and it falls on memorial day weekend a lot so people tend to forget about it...people tend to be away on vacation. The only thing that was ever good was if it fell on that monday, I'd have off school or work or something.
This year I also turned 25. Last year was the first time I'd actually worked on my birthday though. It fell on a tuesday and normally I'd take off and do stuff, but there was just nothing to do. My boyfriend was working, everyone I knew was working and to me, if you don't celebrate on your birthday what's the point? You can go out to dinner any day for any reason. You can go to jersey or whatever anytime for any reason. Your birthday should be special.
It sucked basically. This year was the worst because I turned 25 and I wasn't happy about it. I'd had a bad day. I work with my ex-boyfriend who was my boyfriend last year on my birthday and overall it was frustrating. I really should have taken off.
I think working on your birthday makes it feel like it's just another day. But sometimes if you take off, it still feels like just another day.

well I'm glad you had a standup year!
The only birthday that I remember lately that was pretty good was my 21st. I went to Disney World. I paid for the entire thing myself. I went with a friend... but we each paid our own ways. I wish I had friends like yours.

I can relate to birthdays sucking, they always do in my case, something always goes wrong on my birthday, never little things, something big enough happens early in the morning and just sets the tone for the rest of the day, this year is turning out to be the best yet, I did my 5 days in AC, Jersey and philly, that was a gift from some frineds I met online, inviting me out to their place, and financed the whole thing, from food to transportation. I didnt spend a cent the whole time except on some little things like a shirt, and some Wawa stuff. And my biggest gift and the best I have had, comes at the end of august beginning of september, this is turning out to be a standup year for me.

A lot of people have to work on their birthdays, that is just the way it is sometimes. One year, I completely forgot that my birthday had come because I was working so hard.

I always request a day (Bday included) off well in advanced, at least a month. So there has yet ot be a difficulty, A few years ago, when I took a week off, I requested it in the beginning of May, before anyone else got a chance to put in for vacation time

Ah, I always hated the first day of school, I was always nervous and never slept the night before. when I was in school, we always started the first week of August, but ive noticed since I left (really my senior year) they started going back the last week of August.

Its not at all big deal to work on your birthday. I too work every year. But I make sure to arrange a party at night.

No not a big deal, I was more inquiring if anyone elsem akes an effort. as for a party I dont celebrate, if someone else wants to do something great, if not oh well, but I take the day to do nothing, its the one day every year I usually do nothing, sorta a gift to myself,

I usually have to work on my birthday, because it's right before exams around here, so I need to help my students get ready. I don't worry about it. I usually just have a family dinner on the Sunday nearest my birthday.

Every year I work on my birthday unless it hits on a weekend. My husband uses a personal day and takes his birthday off every year. I wish that I didn't have to work on my birthday, but I run a daycare in my home and this would be an inconvience to the parents.

With my birthday Ive never had to worry about going to school on it, and I doubt im going to attend college so again it wont be a concern, I hope you do eventually get a birthday where you can just relax and not be concerned with anything :)

I've never worried about it one way or another. When I was in school, I wouldn't even consider it since I tried not to miss any school and very seldom did all the way through graduate school. So I never gave a second thought to working on my birthday. Certainly as I have gotten older, it has become even less of a day to make much fuss over. If others want to make a big deal of it that is fine and I would appreciate since it is always nice to be remembered.

I was very much the same way in school, every year I would have near perfect attendence, I never took off school for no reason, I did skip one day during my senior year, I was having a personal issue and just needed to get out, so I did so.

I have never made an effort to take off work for my birthday. When I was in college I often had finals on my birthday. It is really just another day. If someone wants to do something for me on my birthday, it makes me feel special, but I don't try to treat myself.

I think it became more of a habit for me, being Ive been working since 14 yrs old, and my birthday falling during the summertime with no school, we often celebrated my birthday on the day. I guess you can consider it treating yourself, but honestly I just sit at home, this year is the first actual vacation I took in 8 years (since I was 16) I just use the day to relax and do nothing, its really the only day of the year I do that.

Happy Birthday! In my early years of working I always go to work on my birthday except when it falls on weekend. When I could already avail a vacation leave I take a one day leave scheduled in my birthday to spent it with my family. There are times that emergencies arises, birthday is not an excuse to take a leave, work is very important.

I have really not bothered to take a day off on my birthday. I guess you can make the day special even while at work. It might as well turn out a special day at work celebrating with colleagues and friends. So my dear friend, dont worry about not taking a day off on your birthday and Still have a great time. HAPPY BIRTHDAY. HAVE A NICE DAY.
