Today I was out doing some shopping and I couldn't believe what I heard some woman say to another. I didn't really hear the full conversation, but from what I gathered, they were 2 complete strangers talking when one woman said to the other "I couldn't help but noticing your teeth, you should try crest white strips, I did and they're great". I thought that this was kind of a nervy thing for someone to say to another person, I think I would've been offended! What do you think? Was she being helpful or completely rude?

I would say that the person was being rude. It was not her business what the other person looked like.If she did not like the way her teeth looked she should of said nothing to her at all.

I would have been completely offended if someone said that to me. I mean I guess some people do compliment others on how white their teeth are, but to suggest someone has yellow or stained teeth may be a little rude.

well, my own personal opinion is that that was pretty rude to say to someone, especially if she didn't know the woman.
some people honestly don't see that harm in the things they say, and some people might just say things because they are trying to be rude.. you never know.
I was taught by my mother that you keep your comments to yourself. I hope the lady wasn't too embarrassed by that.

In some ways I feel this is kind of Rude. I personally am not sure how I would have reacted with something like this. I guess it would depend on my mood. Because with something like this, I totally feel that unless someone in the store asks you for your opinion, why should you talk about something like this? Some people could take this as very derogatory.

I would have to say that the one is very blunt. I would be embarassed if someone said this to me in a public place. This could make the other lady very self conscience and afraid to go out in public.
People should think about the consequences of their reactions before saying something like this. I would me mortified if this was ever said to me.
The lady might have been trying to help her out, but she probably only made the matter worse.
On the other hand, maybe she was just being rude. Maybe they knew each other and didn't like one another so she said this too make her mad.
There are a lot of different senerios that I could come up with for the situation. I would hope that next time maybe she would think before she opened up her mouth.

She may have been trying to be helpful, but in either case, she came off as being quite rude. I really don't think that there was any call for such a comment and like my mother always said, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

That person she said that too might have extremely low self esteem. I agree that it was very rude. If the person has a problem with their teeth, they will go and do something about it. People should learn to think about how their comments are going to effect others before they open their mouths. If someone said that to me, the last thing I'd be thinking is 'gee I might go and buy some of those'. I'd just be thinking about how rude the personis for saying that for me and I'd be mighty embarrassed!

she is soooo lucky she did not get the (what) knock right out of her. yes i think it was very rude, that is not a strangers place to say what or where or even should of could of or would of. i would probably be offended if someone that wasn't close to me commented on such a thang.

That remark was extremely rude, in my opinion. Today at the post office a middle-aged man standing in line next to a nice-looking young woman, said something self-evident about her appearance that I thought was inappropriate. He said "You sure are tall! How tall are you anyway?" She must get this all the time, because she gave him a big smile and said "6 foot 2" and then he went on and on about how tall that was. That is not as bad as telling someone her teeth are yellow, but I thought it showed insensitivity.
