yes, to me it matters a lot coz it is what you dream for in life, we only live once so we have to live the most out of it. some wants to be very successful in career (business wise) and they do whatever it takes to reach such goal. sometimes some do it the hard way, some do the fast way. i think for them whatever it takes as long as they get what they are dreaming for in life. in my case, i dream to be a good mom and a wonderful loving wife. this is my dream since i was a kid. i dont like to be a boss or anything that relates with business or politics i have already reach that point and i can honestly say that it dont really make me happy, i guess because it is not really what i want and dream of in life. the only reason i work is because i have to and that i feel it is part of me learning something in this life. but now i more happy knowing i am already walking to the path of realization of my so-called "chosen career", and i am really excited im already walking in the road of hoping to be a loving wife so hopefully 1 year or two from now i will be a mom. i am really excited! takecare

Hi William...yes I can see that for a good number of people that statement would be true....usually when you are much younger you obviously want to get on in life....and feel that your career is very important to you... But as we mature the career issue becomes less important somehow..its overtaken by getting the balnce of life right...we want to enjoy our spare time as well as have our nose to the grindstone.... So in one way..yes its an extremely important decision...but I think its one that lessens as you get older..

That is true indeed. Many of my students ask me what they should do after graduation and they feel at a loss what to do and they have fear that it is very complicated to step out of school for work. I alway encourage them that they are sure to learn a lot more that they cannot learn from textbooks at school, but more practice and that they will have to deal with people of different kinds. Learn while working from their career. I thank you so much for your comment on this point. Have a good day as always, dear ruby.

Hello dear ruby. You are right to say that it is more critical to young people who just graduate from school and start to look for a job. But to us, who are mature, the career issue is less important than that of the young. I agree with you on this point, ruby.

Hi William...im sure that the young are more in need of a career than we are really....the first foot on the ladder etc

The statement is very true, especially for men. There is a saying in Chinese, man should choose a right carreer while woman should choose the right husband. But nowdays, carreer is also important for the women. The society is different compared to the old days where women rely on her husband for a living. Now both women and men are getting equal in getting a job and support the household income. I heard that there are more men relying on her women for income while he work on the house chore only. So, by getting the right career, we can have a happy life. If not, we will suffer because we spent most of our time on work.

I agreed with the word from chairman Mr Mao, that woman play important role. Even in English saying, "she who rocks the cradle, rules the world". It means even the King is raised by his mother and the former queen has some say in the politics. In other hand, it also carries the meaning the important role played by woman. Although my current job is not as good as I anticipated when I was studying, but it's satisfying. Not too chanllenging, but permit more flexibility and free time.

Hello dear friend. It is true indeed that it is very important for men to choose the right career and women choose their Mr. Right. It is the same with us men to choose Miss. Right. So far as career is concerned, there are more and more women looking for jobs that they love to support their families together with their husbands. In fact, women play a very important in the family and in many other fields. We have an old saying from Chairmao, who once said that women hold up half the sky, meaning that women are great in many fields and as important, without whom, it is incomplete. Yeah, a right job or proper career is the very one that could not only help support our life and also makes us live a happy life, otherwise we would suffer from not having the right career that we hope. Thanks for your sharing.

You are very true. When we choose a career, we must think of our interest, feasibility, long lasting nature, family requirements etc. Hence choosing a career is very crucial decision.

Choosing a caree is a really crucial decision. I have two nieces and two nephews who are now all working and they graduated last year and this year. One niece is now working a joint-venture company and she loves her job which is concerned with her major at college and it is the same with one of my nephews, but not the other two, who are still trying to look for the right job for them and changing their job. It is not easy for them to choose the satisfactory job that they want to have and it takes time before they can find the suitable one for them. I hope that they will soon find a job that they like.

We choose our career, yet career chooses us as well. I agree with this. It shows that not all of us are able to choose the career that we like. There is such a possibility in life. Thank you, jungle_girl, for your time and response.

I think though, that we do have a choice to turn our backs. I think your career should be where your passion lies. Some people don't answer their passions because there are no gains (economically). So they choose a different path.

I agree that when we choose a career, we need to have a great passion for it otherwise we don't find any interest in it and won't be able to do it well enough. This is really very important for everyone. Thanks for your time and discussion, jungle girl.

You are perfectly right in stating this. Some times I feel that youngsters require some guidance before choosing to know the options available to them, and dos and dont's of career, so that they will be able to think and take the right decision. We should only feed information to them (correct information) and we should not force them to choose what in fact we need them to do. Tomorrow we may have repent for it.

It is very important to offer the youngsters some guidance while choosing a career so that they don't have to wind their way for a big circle before they find the right career. Choosing a career depends on their interest in the job and their capabilities and qualifications about the job. Therefore it is of great importance for them to learn well some skills for the job that they love to do, I think.

Hi jisir, I am wondering whether a career is important for a princess or not. Or I might get the answer after seeing the princess. I know there is a common old saying that men scare being entering a wrong profession whereas women marrying a wrong person. It is very true that incorrect choice of career would create much problem either mentally or materially. It is a mean to earn a living and it will definitely stick to us for life. If one find dissatisfied in his work he will surely feel miserable and unhappy with his living. In this respect, most people view the value of job in term of its payment. They will feel contented if they are well paid though the job might not be their favorites. I do see some ambitious friends who really take the pain to change their occupation for idealism. One of my husband’s friends who had got his engineering degree and took up medicine later on when he found that he had made a wrong choice. I agree that entering a wrong profession is definitely a serious and torturous deal, just like a woman who marries a rich, but bad husband. Bye bye …

Hello lkbooi. I quite agree with the saying that men scare being entering a wrong profession whereas women marrying a wrong person. This is what we Chinese love to say when it comes to choosing a career and getting married to a man and vice versa. Today is the last day of 2009. While appreciating your nice response to this old discussion of mine, I am so sorry for my belated response to your comment. I think that 2009 is a fulfilling year of yours and wish you to have a more prospective 2010. All the best to you, lkbooi.

Hi, I think that the statement "Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions one makes in life" is true. At the stage of going into university and choosing our course, we will have no chance to turn back to try another. So, the choice made at that moment will be a life-changing decision. So, I think that choosing the right career is one of the most important decision in life. If one choose wrongly, then that person might regret of the choice and not enjoying the working life at all. So, we need to make decision very carefully.

Hello dear sdas. Thank you so much for your response and support. I agree that there is no choice of changing a major once you are admitted to a college to major in what you choose though there could be some possibility. And the major we choose would affect us in our future work or career...Thanks again and be happy with the major you choose.

I think you are right in this one. Becuase there are two think we spend the most time in yuour life with , it is sleeping and then working. But sometimes I just feel we don't really choose our career, but it somehow come to us and we just decide to do it. But you know what make me sad? we know that career is important decision for us, btu we still don't have enough consultant for kids, who would help them how to decide. what do you think?

Hello dear laurika. I think the better consultants for the kids in choosing a career are their teachers and parents as they are more familiar with their students and kids, especially their parents, who have been living together with each other for so many years. Of course, the kids themselves are supposed to know themselves better than all the others what they desire to do within their knowledge based on his interest and major at schoo or college. Thanks very much for the further discussion and have a good day, my dear friend.

Hello dear jayalaksmi. Speaking of career, it reminds me of one of my present student who loves drawing and shows great interest in making cartoons, but her father doesn't want her to study it as a future major at college. He insists on her her learning foreign trade and English and German as her major, which does not interests her very much. I think that parents are supposed to let the kids choose their own major based on their interest to get well prepared for the future career that will enable them to have more chances to win success. I am sorry for the belated response to yours after one month of not being as active as I used to. Enjoy your job and take care, dear jay.

Well, dear jiangsl. I think that it owes a lot to what you study at college. I mean, your major at college helps a lot. Since you are learning or have already learned what is offered as your major at college, it will be the very thing that helps you to find a job that is related to your major. This way, I am sure that you will be good at the job that you will later be engaged in. So what is your major at college before I could say anything more, please?

Yes, it is because it determines what you gonna do for the rest of your life. I f you end up choosing a wrong career, you going to suffer through your life doing something you are not interested but forced to do it for a living. What kind of life you will be leading then. Think about it, that one decision determines your lifestyle for probably thity years.
