Do you INVITE responses?

Do you extend personal invitations to certain members to respond to certain discussions, whether you started them or not, just because you'd like to get their take on a matter? I sometimes find myself wondering, "Hmm, I wonder what so-and-so would say to that?" I wouldn't want to be presumptuous or to slight any other member who might have responded, but I've wondered about it from time to time. I was invited once through private message to respond to a discussion that I hadn't seen yet and that was started by someone who wasn't on my friends list. So, I would have probably missed the discussion all together. What do you think? Have you extended such an invitation or have you ever received one?

No, I haven't received any and haven't extended an invitation either. I never thought to do it this way actually. I don't see any problem with it. Especially if it is not on my friends list, I may miss it and would have actually liked to participate.

Yes I have done that before, for the reasons you suggested also to see if it was just me taking something wrong or misundertanding what the poster was saying.
