There has been much talk about reinstitueing the Fairness Doctrine to insure that all points of view are heard. How may of you remember the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. One of the skits was by Pat Paulson in his campaing for President. Because this was run during the Humphry/Nixon presidential run. I don't think anyone took him seriously but we all enjoyed the laughts. He became a victum of the Fairness Doctrine because the show would have to cancel his segment or give all candidates equial time. That not being possible because there was not enought time in the show to give them all time.
This reminded me how reducilus the policy was and what a disaster it would be to have it again.

With the amazing amount of access we have to different points of view, I cannot fathom why we would need a "fairness doctrine." How is this not a violation of 1st amendment rights to political speech? Why should the government be allowed to step in anywhere political speech is being broadcast?
It it is slanderous speech, then there are legal remedies. This will make much much much less in the way of political discourse, not more. What a horrible idea.
Thanks for keeping this important issue on the table, bobmnu.

Good to hear from you again.
I agree with you about the fairness doctrine. Any viewpoint can be heard on the public airwaves. Station owners do not censor on the basis of view point or political party. ALL station owners want to make money. Any show that can make money by attracting advertizers will be heard. The liberals seeking the fairness doctrine amaze me at how stupid they think we are and how stupid they are in in the few cases where they believe their own arguements.
