Do you like the works of Shakespeare? I adore his work. I have three of his plays and plan to add more to my growing library soon. I once did a report about Iago for my English Literature class. I received an A on it. The hardest part was standing in front of the class to give the report, LOL. I think that is probably my favorite work by Shakespeare-though I like so many. Do you have a favorite work by Shakespeare?

I'm currently studying Macbeth at school, and have previously studied Romeo & Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Whilst I do adore his work and the language, I think that the mandatory study of his works in Australian Public Highschools diminishes greatly from his brilliance and gains him a bad reputation amongst this generation.
The fact is: Shakespeare and prose are simply not for everyone.
As corny as it is, I suppose my favourite of his plays is Romeo & Juliet, as I am particularly fond of Baz Lurhman's modern interpretation.

I find it hard to believe, Malyck, that Shakespeare could be diminished simply by the act of being a mandated course. While the students might not grasp the importance of it now, it should benefit them at some point in their lives. On the contrary, I do believe that there is something for everyone within his many works.

Worldwise, am I mistaken, or is this a discussion where people are to share their opinions on whatever topic they so desire?
It seems to me that you only want people to respond who have the same exact feelings towards Shakespeare and his works, and are not interested in someone taking it in another direction, say, for example:
saying that Shakespeare, for some people, may be hard to understand or simply boring.
Personally, I think he's great, but I also know that many people don't want to be forced to read something that is supposedly 'no longer relevant', and many will not become attached and think back to the deeper meanings later in life.
This is my opinion, please do not tell me that I am wrong.
The truth is different for every individual.

I had a chance to own that book, blackkatdreamer, but I missed out on the opportunity. I will not let that happen again. I do have Taming of the Shrew, and it is very enjoyable.

I love Shakespeare. My favorite is Hamlet. i love a good revenge story.I have Mel Gibson's, Olivier's and Kenneth Branagh's versions. I even have Kevin Kline doing Hamlet in modern day dress. I think it is my favorite. But I also like Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing. And I have Pacino's Looking For Richard.Do you know about this. It is a documentary where Al Pacino asks the question, can an American audience understand and follow Richard III? You get to see him rehearse the play and ask the man in the street about the play. I didn't really like Richard III before I saw this film.

I have not seen the Al Pacino documentary, but I will try to find it, sarah. I have never seen anything by Shakespeare that I did not like. I think he was the best.

I think my all time favorite play has to be Hamlet. The story was just so powerful and even though it was about a Prince, you could relate to his emotional stress. I also love Othello, the Tempest, and McBeth. Those are my top ones. I have his complete works and stuided Shakespeare in highschool. English Lit was one of my favorite subjects growing up because of Shakespeare.

English Lit was also one of my favorite subjects in school, devils. I looked upon it as a steppingstone to learning about the different styles of the best writers in history. When you look back on the works of Shakespeare, you realize that people and attitudes have not changed so very much even after so great a length of time.

I love Shakespeare, and I recommend going to Barnes & Noble if you need Shakespeare literature. My favorite work by Shakespeare has to be Julius Caesar. It is a reminder to all to keep your friends very close because they could be your enemies.

You know I really enjoy some of his work, although I do find some of it lacking. I say that because after reading some of his that were (in my opinion) his best works, I think he could have done better on some of his other work. Some of my favorites are MacBeth, A Midsummers Night Dream, and Hamlet. To be completely honest and this is probably going to upset some people, I think Romeo and Juliet kind of stunk. It lacked anything of interest to keep my attention.
I find it real funny how someone in today's world can write stories along the same line as Shakespeare and be called morbid or a freak for it, but ol' Willie is put on this high pedestal. I asked a lady about that once and she said it was because that was the type of workd Willie lived in. Are you freakin' kidding me or what? That is how things are today! Watch any newscast at any time and you will know exactly what I mean by that.
All that aside, I really do like his work overall and he set a real high standard for other people to try and follow.
This is not one of Willie's works but if any of you like epic style poetry then try reading Beowulf. If you have read it what do you think?
