How you distinguish the male from the female goldfish? How can you successfully breed goldfish at home?

To get goldfish to breed you need to cool them down to below 50 degrees F. for a month or more. If they are mature then the males will be white dots on their gill covers and the females will get larger in the stomach (because of the eggs). This will happen in the spring time when the water begins to warm up. You should have two or more males for each female. You will need to separate the parents from the eggs or the eggs will get eaten. Do not worry about trying to save every egg because goldfish can lay thousands of eggs each year.
