Be honest -how did you choose your clothes, hair, career?

Do you feel - if you asked yourself honestly - that your choices are your own? If you really liked something that was out of style - would you buy it - would you wear it? What about your hair, your job, your classes - your friends? If you're popular but liked someone who isn't - would you date them or be friends with them? If you're already friends with them and not popular - but had the chance to be - if you ditched those friends - would you?

I didn't check to see how old you are...and maybe that has something to do with your question. Because I am over 40 and my choices are my own...and have been for most of my life. As one matures there is a wonderful bonus that comes with it..you get over yourself..and the opinions of others and live life on your own terms.
My clothing tastes are mine...and I refuse to be a slave to the dictates of the fashion police...I mean who the heck made them the absolute authority in every women's life. What a pile of nonsense that is. Everyday people enslaving women to dress they way THEY say...come on women...take your power back and dress the way YOU want. My hair...I wear it according to my mood that day. My job...I am self-employed and do not have to answer to anyone else..and that is why I choose the career I did.
Friends are chosen for who they are and I don't give a hoot about what other people think...or weather they approve. Sooner or later people need to come to terms with the fact that we all have a right to choose...it is a God given right...free choice. Once people remember that and implement it they stand a much better chance of living their best life...on their own terms.
People's opinions are just that...opinions. Not the gospel...just a human being's opinion. They can only affect our sense of self...if we allow it. So my view is...figure out what makes you happy, dress the way you choose...and try not to let the opinions of others overshadow the great you that you probably are!

What a great answer. I'm 37 yet would've given the same answer at 12, 15,22 - I don't allow anyone to dictate to me how to dress, act or groom myself. I don't think age informs us. I know many women who still allow the dictatorship of media and conditioning to control their lives. In fact, now I'm a SAHM, but found when I was in the working world women could literally spend hours talking shoes and fashion - women of all ages - and who is in style and who isn't. I so agree with what you say about fashion police. I took Massage Therapy last year and learned exactly what long lasting effects heels have on your entire body and over all health. I wonder if it was a male or female or designed the high heels and who designs them now?

Yes, I like your answer. I dress the way I want but then depending on the occasion or place I am going to. My hairstyle? Whatever I feel like it. Sometimes I cut my own hair if time permits it.
When I was used to be younger, I want to be "in" because I'm very concerned what other people might think of me. I was very insecure and immature that I even buy things that's doesnt' really fit me. But then I thought it's much better to be your own person and carry yourself the way you are.

Glad to see others think and feel as I do and always have. I have never been one for fashion I am a hillbilly mountain gal and people can just take me as I am or too bad for them. I am and have always been my own person and my friends take me as I am and don't try and change me. Nor I them. Hubby likes me fine too. LOL. If I had my druthers the only thing I do give in to is wearing clothes. I druther not at least sometimes when it is really hot out. Haha.

Yes, I would definitely say my choices are all my own. I seem to have always been drawn to anything atypical or non-mainstream. I befriend people from all walks of life and never give a second thought to how they look or dress. I'm also reaching the stage in life where I'd way rather wear comfortable footwear than stylish footwear.

they cause bunions, hammertoes, blisters and calluses, nueromas - nerve damage - puts a strain on not just the back but ankles, calves and knees, it shortens the Achilles Tendon if worn for years - etc - all in the name of beauty and fashion - not unlike the asian of yester years who bound their feet for the same purposes.

High heels are bad for the back (spine) not to mention my bad back. Even though I'm very small, only 5 feet high, I don't wear high heels just because it's "in" or what not. I don't know how other people can manage to walk on heels and still promote good posture.

I choose to be a Stay at home mom and now grandmother. I wear what I like and don't care what anyone else things I wear my hair how I like it too. I am not a people pleaser, and could care less about style or fashion. I create my own style and fashion what suits and looks good on me.

When it comes to clothes and my hair, I definitely do what I want to do. I buy most of my clothes based on low prices and whether I think it will be comfortable and cute on me, usually in that order. As for my hair, I like having long hair (and my fiance likes me having long hair also), and I don't really worry about whether or not anyone else thinks long hair is cool.
As for popularity and friends, I think I'm pretty much out of most social circles where that would matter. Yeah, there may be some cliques in my circles of friends, to a small extent, but it's not nearly as bad as it was in high school.
