Hi, Rubygrace! How about treating your friend to a spa? Going to the spa relieves me of the stress and pressures of work. How about buying your friend a nice blouse or skirt or pants? She will definitely appreciate and use the clothes whenever she appears in Court. We, lawyers, love to give ourselves a treat whenever we do well in our work or whenever we need it. We also have to dress well and look good. :)

Wow! I like the two ideas above me, but I don't have that kind of money? Do you?
I don't know your friend, so this is hard. What kind of law does your friend practice? I gather you told us that because you wanted a present related to law.
If your friend recently graduated, then you could get a copy of the graduation announcement and decoupage it to a piece of wood with a hanger on the back. Craft stores often have unfinished plaques just for that purpose.
Or if the person has been practicing for a while, then maybe there is a write-up about your friend in a newspaper or trade magazine that you could either decoupage or start a scrapbook with that article. You could add a picture of Lady Liberty or the Scales that have to do with the balance of law or the law is blind ( not prejudice) symbol could be added to the plaque/page. If you use the scrapbook idea, s/he will have a way to chronical his/her years as a lawyer. Every time the person looks at the plaque or adds to the scrap book, the person will think of you.
