in my house we usually start after thanks giving.i dont like to rush the holidays because they come and go so fast,so we try to prolong as much as we can.its bad enough when you go to the store in october and you see christmas stuff out already,i hate that.especially with children you want to enjoy it and make the best of preparing for it etc.

I don't put up any decorations for Christmas until December first. The day after Thanksgiving I go up into the attic and bring the boxes down, sort through, and see if anything needs repair or new parts. I can see somebody stringing up the outdoor lighting in the nice weather, but I can't see turning on the display until the actual holiday season gets here...just seems too early (despite what the stores do.)

I collect snowmen and I have about 500 of them so I start setting them early as I feel that they are more a sign of winter than Christmas. I usually set them the end of October or the first of November and I set my other stuff after I get the snowmen set.
I think September is too early as I want to celebrate fall some before I start the long stretch of winter!!

wow that's really early. i'm not sure whether I'll decorate my home for christmas this year, since I'm not sure if there'll be many people coming.
I think if I do, the earliest I'll put them up is Nov. Perhaps your friends are trying to get the most mileage from their decorations. I'm surprised that shops have even started selling decorations, or perhaps these are from their stash last year. :)

we here in the philippines always keep our christmas decoration and hang it again the next year. if we are going to put something new we just add a little.
some of my relatives really enjoy putting up christmas decorations as early as that maybe because they become so busy when the real christmas season approaches.
hey even you will not have any visitor put up some decors.... it is the spirit right? not for the visitors. wink wink
thanks for the response my friend.

I start right after Thanksgiving. It tends to be a gradual process because I do the inside decorating and my husband does the lights outside. We usually get our Christmas tree the second weekend in December. We love to take the kids to a local farm and cut it down ourselves. It is becoming somewhat of a tradition. I think September is way too early but that is just my opinion.

I usually put up my Christmas decor the weekend after Thanksgiving. Have to hit the sales the day after Thanksgiving and I use the following day to recover...lol. I would rather wait for the snow but that may not come until Christmas...it didn't last year!
