So what do you guys think of this? The state department has initiated a rule that if you owe over $2,200 in back child support you will be refused a passport until it is paid in full. I think it is a fabulous idea! It is working. There have been several cases where the child support has been well in excess of $50,000 and the non-custodial parent has managed to find the funds to pay the back child support to get their passport. I guess some people just don't get it. Anyhow, what are your thoughts on this?

This is a brilliant rule, and not before time for all the mothers who are left to raise children on their own and the father gets off scott-free. At least it's one way of getting them to pay up, but has room for improvement. What about the mothers whose partners never apply for a passport? The whole Child Support Law needs to be looked at and improved drastically don't you think?

Yes the child support laws have much room for improvement and it is high time they addressed them. I hate to see custodial parents suffering financially because the other deadbeat parent won't take their responsibilities seriously. Thanks for commenting!

That is a really good and imaginative way of dealing with the problem! The only thing I would do differently is lower the limit right down to $1000 or maybe even $500. A lot of the time the families involved really need that money, and if you have the spare cash to be going on holiday in the first place then you have no excuse to be behind on child support payments.

Absolutely! I mean if your going on a trip abroad and you can't pay your child support there is definitely something amiss! Thanks for commenting!

Well that is true, but married, separated or divorced support is not being paid and that is just wrong. In some cases tax payers are footing the bill for lower income families. Thanks for commenting.

Its nice that someone is doing something but its still far too little and far too late for most.

True, but anything helps. It's got to start somewhere, so maybe there will be more done in the future. Thanks for commenting!

I think it is a great idea. My ex owes me over 29,000 dollars to bad he wouldnt try for his passport. I'd love to get that in a lump sum.

I know! I think it is a good idea, but of course we need to get revamp the child support laws, because what is in place is helping, it isn't solving many problems. There are many ways to still skirt hte system from what I see. Thanks for commenting!
