For a growing child, is bread more nutritious a cereal or rice? My son loves rice and all kinds of rice-based dishes. But I believe, rice has no roughage and is fattening. What kind of bread is good and is there anything wrong in having bread for all the meals? In India, there is something called `chapati' which is flattened wheat bread but requires no yeast or baking but is held over the fire and sort of toasted. My son is nearly eight.

Wether rice or bread is mor nutritiious depends a several things. Is The rice brown rice with the hull still intact or is the rice whte rice that has been polished and refined. Is the bread made from the whole wheat or is the flour refind and the wheat germ removed. If the rice has not been polished or the bread is made from the whole wheat they both can be good for you tken in moderation. You did not state if you fed your son fruits and vegetables. If you are concrned about his weight that give him more of these they will provide his growing body with all the nutritents that he needs. Check out his web sit to se what each vegetabe ar fruit contained for nutrition.

That depends on the rice. Brown rice still has roughage. A child needs a variety of food. So a little of different things is better than all of one or another. Chapatis sould neat. Is that whole wheat? Over processed anything isn't good. Minimally processed is usually better. Take care

Chapati is made from whole wheat ground to a flour, husk and all. Its not processed as I said. In the olden days in India, there was something like a clay oven. Even today, in most restaurants, chapatis are made in this kind of an oven known as Tandoor. They are very tasty but there's always a controversy whether this is healthy or not. These ovens are like barbecue where coal is used. Anyway, chapatis are considered the most nutritious of all cereals though my sn hates it...Ha, ha!

Sounds delicious to me. My brother hates whole wheat. No accounting for taste?

i think bread is more nutritious than rice because rice have more elements of fat than rice.yes you are right in india we meke chapati that is more nutritious than that of bread. it is made of wheat floor with some water and then flatten it with a roller and toast it in oven or simply on gas then serve it with some butter or ghee.
