Dell, Gateway, HP... The list could go on and on...
What kind of computer do you own? Do you like it? Why or why not? Based on your experiences what is the best brand of computer and why?
My home PC is a Dell. We had Gateways at work and school but my job just switched to Dell as well. I like Dell a lot. They make good quality computers that last a LONG time for a reasonable price. I'm pretty sure that my next home computer will be a Dell as well. What about you?

I am using a Dell Desktop that I've had for about 5 years now. I haven't had any problems but I do want to upgrade some things and probably switch to Microsoft Vista soon. I have a Dell printer that is a piece of crap. It was new but it was cheap. What can i expect. I had ran out of black ink so I ordered some more and replaced it, first the printer level kept saying I was out of black ink for months and then my printer started printing out only the words typed in color. And today nothing will print out, not even from my color ink whick is not out and I have not switched up. I have taken out and replaced the black ink many times and still I get no results. The troubleshoots don't help. Has anybody else had this problem?

I don't have a Dell printer but thanks for the heads up. Maybe the printers are not as good as the computers?!

My laptop at home is a Dell. I have had no problems with it, it's almost 1 year old, and it's been a great system for me. I built my own PC with the help of some of my friends who are computer engineers, so they designed it and helped me with the building process; I like it much better than any of the premade desktop PCs because of the custom features I was able to use. Dell has been a good computer company for me; even when it's time for me to upgrade my laptop I will probably go with Dell once again.

Thanks for your response! I agree, I think Dell makes good computers. I don't have any complaints with them.

IBM mainframe
With Linux and Solaris on IBM mainframes (does anyone else still make them?), the distinction, from the user viewpoint, will be academic.
The mainframe always was just a big computer anyway, but with a rather horrible OS to keep the end users out of harm's way.
I would expect that for situations where really huge databases are updated and accessed in real time, really huge, fast, monolithic computing will be inevitable, but I'm not about to place bets on what it will look like on the floor - one big box or lots of little ones.

Thanks for your response! I'm glad your Sony and HP are working well for you. I've never used a Sony so I wouldn't know how they work.

By far I am still using my hp computer. This precious set of desktop has accompanied me for almost seven years. I had sent him to the technician once to update the ram and the other is because of some glitch. Since it is quite durable and never gives me any trouble so I think it is worth for me to buy the set of hp computer.

I have an HP Compac Presario Pentium 4. It is a basic computer, just a little better than an E machine. It is designed mainly for home use. The one thing wrong is that I cannot record online music, I can only record using a microphone, so that is why I plan to get a Mac next time, and if I get a laptop, I can use it anywhere.

at work, I'm using a hp laptop. At home, my laptop is sony vaio. I'm happy with both but I love my sony vaio even more hehe. anyhow, so far I'm pretty satisfied with both of the brands, although I think that my hp laptop's battery deteriorate quite fast. .
