DIY Spa Treatments

Well, today I decided to do some experimenting... I wanted to make my own face mask, but I didn't have enough ingredients so I just rubbed some lemon on my face (hey, the website told me to!) and then used an old face mask I had lying around. My skin feels really soft now.. I am not sure if the lemon did anything, but it did sting a little. I also thought while that was drying I would make a hair mask. I used some eggs and olive oil, put it in there and wrapped my hair up in saran wrap. Now my hair is really soft and feels light. I also washed it with dish soap, though (trying to make my dye fade.) Then I thought while those are sitting on my face/head I would concoct a body wash out of brown sugar and lemon. I used it in the shower and my skin is soooo soft now. It smells really good too. Okay so the point... do you know any DIY treatments like these? Have you tried any and how did they work?

Oh yes, I mix stuff from time to time (mostly when I have time and energy). And I find them working quite well. I like the yoghurt mask the best because it's really simple and effective. Oh and I collect all the homemade recipes I found interesting at: http://beauty-tricks.com/index.php?option=com_facileforms&Itemid=&ff_name=ReviewList&ff_param_section=8&ff_param_cat=46&ff_param_limit=10&ff_param_order=SubmissionDateNew You are welcome to check out when you have time or planning for your next spa treatment *laughs*.

My mom used to use Hellman's Mayonnaise on her hair. She had thick dry hair and it made it so shiny and soft. I don't know of any other homemade beauty treatments. I would love to find a good one for my face. It has been feeling so tight and dry lately.

I may try the mayonnaise sometime. I have really thick, dry hair too. You could try googling "diy face mask" or something. I remember seeing one for dry skin, but I don't remember what was in it..

Very interesting to read about your endevours for bettering your beauty and softness. But why all these? You are genuinely beautiful as can be seen from your present photograph. I do like this one than the earlier two. So God has blessed you with an attractive face and other features. Preserving it in the proper way is very good.

Braggs Apple cider vinegar is great for the hair. Use it as a rinse after you shampoo, then rinse well, and condition hair as usual. Also you can gently rub it on your face , let it dry, then rinse off. The apple cider tones the skin and makes it soft. Apple masks are good, as well as honey based masks.

Mayonnaise is supposed to be wonderful for your hair. The body wash you did with brown sugar is a great exfoliant. Using either sugar or salt with some liquid is a great scrub. Also, the lemon can help fade spots on the skin. Oatmeal is supposed to be good for oily skin. Egg whites are good for something, but I don't remember what. Probably it's good for oily skin too, as I can imagine it would soak up oil. I have heard but I've never tried this. I read somewhere that strawberries can help whiten your teeth. Sounds kind of odd to me, but it might be worth looking into.

I have done this one for smooth skin and it works great. Take an old washcloth lay it flat, add about 2 tablespoons of instant plain oatmeal to the center of it. Pull the corners and sides up and a put a rubber band around it so you have the oatmeal trapped in it. Now shower as normal. When finished rub your skin with table salt to exfoliate your skin, don’t press hard. Rinse, then rub your oatmeal washcloth over your body then rinse again. You’re done! I have used this many times and it leaves my skin is so darn smooth when I finished. Try it and see. :oD

I have a friend who swears by covering the hair in olive oil and letting it sit...almost like a hot oil treatment, but it isn't hot and its so much better for the hair because it is natural. I have also heard of the mayonaise treatment mentioned above but don't know anyone who has better results than with the olive oil.

As you know now days they are selling stuff like this micodermabrasion, and it is suppose to rid your face of the top layer of skin and help cell growth, well my Mom had a very good reciept for this,so here it is i will share it with you..Wet a wash cloth with warm water, put some mild soap on the wash cloth and take a teaspoon of cornmeal and put on the wash cloth with the soap ,massage it all over your face ,it will seem a little harsh but it will rid your skin of all impurities, when you are done ,rinse your face with warm water...your face will feel so clean...You can follow with any face cream of your choice. My Mom also use to wash her face with warm water and out real mayonaise on her face and rub it in ,she would leave it on around 15 minutes, then remove it.Mayonaise has oil and lemon juice and egg whites, very good for your face.my mom was almost 89 years old when she passed away and she had beautiful skin and very few wrinkles...

I can't think of any off hand but over the years I know I have done some 'strange' things - I like the sound of all of these you did though and just may treat myself to a day at the 'spa'. Thanks for the tips.

I love to concoct my own stuff. My two favorite facials are 1) mix oatmeal with water - put on your face till dry and then take a hot towel and place it over your face. Skin feels great after. The other is using egg whites. Mix them up a bit and then put on face - again a warm towel to wash off.
