If someone came up to you and gave you enough money to start a business what business would you start? Something you have always wanted to do? I would have a book store with a little nook where I could sell my poetry that I frame, and a little coffee shop. I would have special days just for children and have activities that included charaters dress up to fit the charaters in the books. I would have teas for the ladies who could chat about their latest read and just basically make it a really fun place to hang out. What business would you start?

I would have a yarn store. Once a week, I would teach a knitting class, and every once in a while I'd hire other people to teach knitting workshops. It would be so fun.

I'd buy my boyfriend all the dj equipment he needed. So, he could do that for a living instead of working too hard for such a small amount.

Dear Jillhill, I do not like to start any business at my age. However, if at all if somebody forced me to start a business that would be service industry for computer and various allied items repair serivce because there is a lot of income in that. Moreover, in our country (India) computer sale and service market is booming. Every year more than 46% increase in sale. This percentage is more than targetted figure of 36%. I therefore would like to start computer service industry.

If I can start up my own dream business with someone sponsoring me, I will set up a travel business for a niche market, which will cater to (a) locals who want to travel overseas, and (b) overseas visitors who want to see my country. Mine will not be the normal travel agency which caters to F&E holidays, fixed packaged tours or just booking of accommodation/flights.
For locals going overseas, my agency will help plan holidays for them based on their budget, the countries they like to visit, places they like to see and the activites they want to indulge in. So someone comes to me and says he would like to go to say Melbourne for a holiday. He would like to see lots of nature, visit some good wildlife parks, go trekking and see some waterfalls, visit flower gardens, spend 2 days shopping in the big malls, try hot air balloon, etc. Preferably, he would want to experience farm-stay at a homestead, and spend at least one night at a seaside town. Then he gives me a budget, and with that feedback, I will plan a suitable itinerary for him. He can choose to self-drive or be escorted. I will discuss the itinerary with him and finetune it to his liking, then help him do the necessary bookings of flights, accommodation, rental cars, etc. and provide him maps, brochures and information relating to the places I've planned for him. Then he can have a fully customised holiday which will suit him. I find such travel planning service lacking in my country.
For foreign visitors, they can tell me what the days they are free, what they like to see and do, the preferred attractions they want to visit, the kinds of food they like to try, etc. and I will plan an itinerary to suit their preferences. Then I will drive and escort them around for their local holiday, and attend to any needs they have for the duration. This is a very specialised escorted holiday arrangement. I think some visitors would love to have something like this arranged so they can make the most of their holiday.

In principle, I thought so too. But I wonder why agencies don't do this. Probably it is too costly in terms of time and effort for an agency to cater specially to a specific traveller, rather than provide more general arrangements like packaged tours for the mass market. These will sell faster and give the agency more profits I guess.

I always have the dream to run my own bridal shop. As I love the idea of using my creativity in making wedding gift card, wedding gift to the audience and so on. I'm very good in managing an event and become a wedding planner with my own bridal shop was my business dream. But now, I have another kind of business in my mine; which is contract-farming leech. Have you guy heard about it?!
Here in my country, leech's farming become more popular right now. The prospect is very good. But, guess I have to save my money first for the capital.

I'm glad it doesn't cost anything to dream! Let's see...after I pinched myself proving it wasn't a dream... If I could, I would want to start a craft & hobby store. I love doing all kinds of different types of crafts and have taught many people how to do all kinds of things. I stencil (and cut my own 5 color stencils), sew, etch glass, build & do woodworking projects, paint, quilt, crochet and more. I've always had a love of producing something fine & handmade. The only thing I love better is helping someone else learn a new craft. One time I taught a whole night shift at the hospital how to crochet (even a leftie) and they all started with scarfs and a few of them progressed to sweaters and stuff. So, I love to teach and pass along.

Well, we already have a business that we absolutely LOVE - and it cost almost nothing to get going!!! And there's almost no overhead.
But if I had to do something else, I'd start my own CPA practice, specializing in income tax and also small business issues.

I like your idea! I would definitely come to your store. : ) If I could have my own business, I think it would specialize in unusual home decorations. I don't like tacky things, but I really enjoy unusual things. Maybe local artists could sell their works, local carpenters could showcase their work, but all in all it would be classy. I just love things that aren't normal. Attached to that part of the shop would be a little pasta place. Sort of a homey mom and pop type thing. A lot of different teas would be offered to compliment the pasta.

My partner and I would love to have a recording studio. We are both very keen on our music and the idea of being able to run a recording studio would be a dream come true for us. A studio and rehearsal rooms, maybe even a small venue for live gigs too

I want a quiet place to relax during the morning and then i'll transform it to a bar at night. Not so big place will do. As long as it is cozy and everything.
