here in Turkey, it is not something welcomed to call our parents with their names. but i've seen those kids calling their parents with their names many times on TV. do you think that it is correct? do you believe that it looses the family ties? do you call your parents with their names or do you let your children do that?

certainly not. Neither I called my parents with names, nor do my children call me by names. We talk in singular but not by names.

Hi, well yes even i have heard my people and even small kids calling thier parents by their first names or they keep pet names for their parents, and i too feel that it does not show respect and it looses out the special place parents have in thier kids life. It somehow gives an impression of a over friendly relationship, where as i feel there should be some respect, some little distance that demarks parents from others, whom the kids should look upto and respect and call with a little respect giving them their honour. No, i have never called my parents by their names, i dare not and i dont even feel like it, nor do our kids call us by our first names, we remain papa-mama for them, and we like it that ways too. :)

We do not call our parents by their names, it is not part of our culture (I am from India). I have not met anyone here calling his parents by their first name, by not calling parents by their name, a distance between kids and parents and parents' respect is maintained.

Personally, I call my parents a number of different things. Mainly, I call them mum and dad, or variations of that/nicknames, such as mama, daddy, papa bear, little mummy etc. But there are also occasions when I feel more comfortable calling them by their names, or when it is easier, such as in a crowd.

Of course not. In our country call parents'name means you don't respect your parents. We are educated to respect our eldership from our childhood.
