Other than the obvious, what kinds of smells turn you off? I know that I hate to smell loud, cheap perfumes or colognes, garlic breath, burnt plastic. There are probably more that I hate, but these are at the top of my list. I have always had a very sensitive nose, and that is not always a good thing, believe me. I also do not like the smell of those pine cleaners, ugh!

Vanilla, tomato sauce, and sandalwood all have that effect on me. Vanilla is by far the worst.

You must have a very strange sense of smell, rachel. Most people love the smells of the things you mentioned.

This coming from someone who doesn't like pine cleaner? I'm not a fan either, though, or of citrus cleaners, now that I think about it.
I understand most people like vanilla, but for me it's too cloying and generic, the ubiquitous smell of high-end clothing stores on the northside, hair salons from my childhood, and a particularly loathsome roommate.
Tomato sauce reminds me of the 100 degree summers in the Deep South when my grandmother would cook homemade sauces for hours, super-heating her climate uncontrolled house and driving me outside to fend off mosquitoes and heat exhaustion.
Sandalwood disappoints me. Something with a name that cool should actually smell so much better. It is the scent of disappointment, and unmotivated pot-smokers yet to discover patchouli oil.

Well, apple, each person has their own particular scent, but most polite people try to smell socially acceptable, lol.

WorldWise,What about "Body Odor" people how fail to bathe on a regular basis or have glandular problems and sweat heavily and can't control the problem like the rest of us.
I remember this one time having to unload a Trailer for a Truck driver on a hot summer day with the sun heating up the container to about 120 degrees .The stinky dirty driver stood over us as we unload his truck.By the time we finised the job a pair of us were ready to Puke!!!
What about garbage rotting in a dump or heating up in the trash can with maggots growing inside of the container?
How about that rotten egg smell that comes from sulfur at a nearby
industrial complex.
The "Wonderful" aroma you get from stepping into the portapotty at the local fairgrounds.

I am happy to say, pismeof, that I have not had the pleasure of smelling most of those things, but I have smelled some horrible things in my time. We used to get mice when I was a child and poison would be put out for them. When the bodies started to decay it was terrible.

The smells of burnt oatmeal and burnt popcurn really turn me off and make me feel ill. A friend of mine burnt popcorn in the microwave a work a few months ago. She walked away and no one knew it was burning until the stench had filled both floors of the office. The smell lingered for two days! The oatmeal was so burnt she had to throw the bowl away! Burnt oatmeal smells HORRIBLE!

I agree with the burnt popcorn smell, skewed, but it can't be easy to burn oatmeal, lol.

I detest the smell of lavendar, I mean the pur lavendar oil that you can buy. If it is in the form of baby bath or lotion it is ok, but you get the oil or the spray or plug in scents I cant stand it makes me naucious. I also hate the smell of strong collogne or purfume and sulfer is aweful too. The last 2 things that I can think that I really cant stand are the smell of cats and dogs. If I had it my way our dogs would be bathed daily but it isnt healthy for them.

Well I know most people will think this strange - but the smell that really turns me off is coffee - I absolutely loathe it! I remember as a child growing up, there was one shop in my hometown that sold freshly ground coffee. It was not so popular here in those days - not many people drank coffee - it was always tea, so this was a bit of a "speciality shop", - but my poor Mother couldn't even walk past it (let alone go in it!), because the smell was so foul to me, that I was immediately physically sick! I still can't sit next to anyone at work drinking real coffee, because the smell makes me feel ill and I have to move. The instant stuff isn't so bad because it smells much milder, - but the real thing is making my stomach churn just thinking about it now!

Once I was babysitting a puppy and was wearing some of my mother's JLo Glow perfume. One day I came home to a revolting smell coming from a bedroom that I'd kept closed up all day, so the dog wouldn't do anything naughty in there. I opened the door and realised that I'd closed the door that morning before realising that he'd already pooped on the floor in there. It was a really hot day and none of the windows were open and the smell was absolutely horrendous. Since then, JLo Glow has made me gag each time I've smelled it.

Ugh..tell me about pine cleaners...that one nosy neighbor --the one that was giving me a hard time cause she smelled cats and asked if I had anymore?? No..she hasn't bothered me about that anymore....but she uses pine cleaner and must use industrial full strength --her cooking odors are to be desired as well..NOT..
I can think of another really disgusting smell...vomit! Oh, how delightful it is to walk on a street in the hot weather and come across someone's retchings..yuk

Oh wordwise. How I envy you. I do not have a sense of smell at all. I don't know what the smell of a newborn baby would be like, or an orange or even my first cup of coffee in the morning. The house could be on fire and if i didnt see it I surely wouldnt smell it, so would be in big trouble.
When I buy perfumes I pretend to smell the delicious 'fruity, fresh, sexy smell, but truly i have no idea.

I love to smell onions, mistissa, but not on someone's breath, lol. Diapers can be a bit overpowering at times.

You have very sensitive nose, which made hard for you to live in over flowing places of smells. You hate many types of smells,But as concerned by me and many like me are fond of varities of smell. I like smell arises from the kitchen. Smell of mango attracts me. once I was following a cart of mango seller on a railway station. I did not care the wistel of train and kept continue to follow the cart, which caused to leave the train.
Colors and Smells increase the beauty of this world. Why should we hate the smells. Let us enjoy it all.

What I hate most is the smell of a person who doesn't take a bath for the longest time then spray a strong scent of perfume. It really makes my nose angry.
