Here's the afghan that took first place at the county fair but the state fair ripped apart and made me cry. Pftttt to the state fair, it's my masterpiece! Now I'm on a quest to find the ultimate difficult and beautiful pattern for next year's fair. Got any suggestions?

Your afghan is really beautiful! I Love it! I wish I could make something like that. I myself have always wished I could make afghans that reflected the olden days. It's the love and care that you put in it that counts. Wow I also did not know there was so much compitition crocheting. You are a go getter, and I know you will make it! You will find the right one to make. Perhaps just look into your hear and create your own.

OMGosh, yes, there is huge competition here at our state fair. Tons of people from all over the state submit their work and it's just amazing to see it all. Thanks for the kind words. I wish I could design my own patterns but I have no idea how to do that! I did it once in cross stitch but I would have no clue with crochet. That surely would be awesome though.

That is a beautiful afghan. The design is so different. And I love the colors you'd chosen. What do you do with your afghans? Do you keep them or give them away as presents? Or do you sell them? I crochet, small projects only, because I don't have enough patient to wait for a large piece to finish. I'd like to work on an afghan some day. Maybe, you can share the pattern :))

Most of my afghans I keep for myself but sometimes I give them as gifts. I don't actually have the pattern anymore as I had made all the ones in that book that I liked so I gave the book to someone else. It's called Tyrolean Christmas and is in one of the Vanna White pattern books.

That is amazing! That's a craft that I'm not that great at. I always admire what people can do with their hands. Good luck with that next one! I know a very willing recipient, if you don't want it! LOL!

That is so neat. You did a beautiful job on it, definitely worth the ribbon! I wish I could help you out on a pattern but I only know one afghan pattern, Mile-a-Minute. I never did much crocheting and even less now that arthritis has grabbed hold. Hope you find something really great for next year's competition. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for your kind comments! I've never tried the mile a minute patterns. I have a few of them but for some reason have never tried them. I think for the afghan I'm going to make for my nephew for Christmas that I will try one of those patterns. Thanks!

Oh Bugg, I rated your pic and then I lost your discussion..I am back now...lol..I think it is absolutely beautiful. You have quite a gift. I am still doing simple stuff but maybe one day I will be brave enough to do a harder one. The H*ll with the fair. They have no idea what they are missing out on...

How or why did they rip your beautiful afghan apart at the state fair? I would be really upset about that with all the time and money invested into it. Did they reimburse you in anyway?

Oh, I'm sorry for the confusion! They didn't literally rip it apart. I should have said that they criticized it negatively with words. They pin a piece of paper to the back of the stuff they judge and on it are comments written about what they liked and didn't like about the piece. I'd have seriously had a fit if they literally ripped out the stitches!

Oh that makes more sense. I didn't even think of it that way. Still, that is a really nice afghan and one I would not have even known how to begin yet have it turn out as pretty. I am sorry they criticized it so much I think it is beautiful.

I am glad you clarified that, I was thinking they literally tore it up! It is a beautiful afghan. Do you get the patterns from Annies Attic that you can check everyday?? A free one a day. I think you would find quite a few challenging ones there!
