Where do you get ideas for your Associated Content or Helium articles?

I'm thinking about writing some articles for Associated Content or Helium or one of the other paying article sites, but I'm kind of drawing a blank when it comes to useful article topics. Sure there are hundreds if not thousands of things a person could write about, but that's the problem. How do I know which topics I can actually get paid for? Also, where does one get their inspiration for these types of articles? Do you watch the news? Read blogs? I've considering writing opinion pieces on current news events or hot topics, however, those are just my opinions and I'm not sure they will pay for that. And, then there are generic topics on beauty and health, but those have been done so many times I'm not sure they'll receive much notice or pay. So, here's my question. How do you locate hot selling topics for your Associated Content or Helium articles so that you always get paid? Which topics or types of articles sell better on Associated Content or at least receive more pay? Would appreciate some suggestions.

I am not on AC because it doesn't take international people and it's paid by piece and you could be rejected with your articles. But I heard that if you get accepted, the money is not bad. I am on helium which works a little different than AC. You don't get your articles paid by piece, it's paid by views. So you write and you promote your articles on your own to get more readers at the same time, the pay rate is low but it's on the long run. I am building a profile of beauty articles in helium and that means I only write beauty stuff because it's what I have more information and knowledge on and good at. I would browse through the topics and see if I have something relate to it, if so, I will write about it. I would rather do that because it's paid by view anyway. Also, I would rather do something I am good at than sitting there going blank mind with other topics. I would advise you start browsing around their site, see what kind of articles there are and how people write those. Then if you see an interesting topic, just write about it. The money will eventually come!

Hi wondericequeen! I'm a beauty fanatic as well. I have a beauty website and beauty blog, so I can relate on being a big beauty fan. I have written some articles on beauty and hair and such, so perhaps Helium is the way to go. I can market to the masses. Know how to do that. So, I don't think getting page views would be a problem. Before now I didn't understand how Helium works, that's why I've never seriously considered them. Thanks for explaining it to me. P.S. Please send me a private message with your Helium beauty article links and I will visit them. Hope that helps your income! Friends support friends online. And, good carma comes to us all. Be well, thanks for dropping by.

Right I think you will do good with Helium! There are many categories in the beauty & style section and I am sure some topics would interest you. If you have your beauty website and blog, then I am sure you will do fine at Helium using your sites to promote your articles! Besides, just a reminder, if you write to the existing topics there, then your articles will appear in 5 seconds, and if you start a new topic, your article has to wait for a day or two.

Before I got the job I have now, I wrote a lot for AC. I always just wrote about things that I knew I wouldn't have to do any research to write. I mostly wrote about parenting things. Some of the articles paid really well, considering there are so many parenting articles up. I got over $15 for one. Another good thing about AC is that they now pay you for page views as well as your original offer. I've heard that the offers have been going down since they started that, though. I've been paid once for page views, though, and I haven't written anything since they started that.

I was afraid of that! All good things must come to an end. Looks like I missed the AC train.

I don't do associated content, but for helium, I don't really worry about thinking about topics - I choose article titles that i think I know something about, and then I write away! I also don't worry about the topic being hot, I am just trying to get a lot of articles on. Right now I am only making a few cents a day there, but I hope once I have more articles up I will make more.

I am with you. I too write for the pleasure of it. Its fun to write and see your article being posted right away. Then watching it climb up ratings gives added pleasure, just feel like child once again. Yes, I think its like doing Math exercises - the more you write the more you perfect your Maths. Writin more and on varied topics also hones one's writing. And it is nice to increase you portfolio -after we get to retain the rights

I am not on associated content, but I am on Gather. http://www.gather.com/inviteLanding.jsp?parentMemberId=56566&tc=11 As for where I get my ideas, I get my ideas from everyday life. Sometimes I take my computer with me to the cafe across the street, and write while I'm there.

Hello Mylot friends, Could anyone please tell me if there is any such site for Indian users for writing articles of their own choice. If anyone knows about it could you please give me the link.. I have checked up Associated Content and Helium which I understand is only for USA users.

Sorry, you are wrong. Helium can be very much be used by Indians. In fact, any day now, Helium is launching A helium India portal, so see you there !

Helium has various channels listed. I'd suggest go for a topic that interests you or are passionate about - to begin with. Next check out the topic already under deabate or requiring article submission. Third, opt for the ones that have had minimum submissions so far - better chances of getting a good rating, if you write well. All the best

I at first mostly wrote about things I know about. Now I branch out to things I can research easily. Also it's a good idea to search AC for similar content, if there is too much on a subject, it does not pay well.

I write for both sites, but I think Helium is easier because they have the topics all pre-chosen for you. Just pick what you know and write. I've done best on my iPhone article and on writing about cruises. For awhile, I used to write mainly about politics. I think that if you look at what they are promoting on the front page, contests, and marketplace, you can do well. It took awhile to reach cash out, but now that I have some articles over there, it seems to be working better. As for Associated Content, they really have tightened up and I haven't written for them in awhile. They are much pickier about the topics they are interested in. It's best to pick what's in the headlines or what they are requesting info about. They also tend to be seasonal. They were recently requesting information about college towns (with school beginning again). Good luck with your writing.

I like to write about things I know. I also love to travel in the state of Tennessee so I put a lot of articles about things to do or places to eat while traveiling in or around the state. When I am going to travel out of state I also look on associated content to see what others like to do in the state I am visiting. This helps my trip good better. I recently had a very bad experience shopping at K-Mart so that made a great article for associated content. They were so helpfull in getting this article published. I think that when you are writing about things that you really care about you get better responses. It seems I make more money if I write an article that I am really passionate about. Look around you there is always something going on to write about. Associated content also sends out emails saying what they are looking for. This helps me a lot. I have actually writen four articles this month and all are up but one. If you are intereated in looking at some of my work you may find an idea that I missed. Good luck http://www.associatedcontent.com/user/47316/dawn_grubbs.html

so hi beauty i did join helium but i heard that it pays a few cents for writing long articles and since then i have never visited it again. As for associated content they pay very well. i got 6.32$ for one article and i was so happy. the pay can range from 3-6$. not to worry. but of course the main question is what to write. let me tell you that they do not pay you on opinion related articles. the content should not be argumentative. It should not be too common. Good advices or good strategies for a certain task will score better. on common topics you might be paid low like 3$. but on good new topics you are sure to score 6 or 5$. and it might also happen that you might not be paid at all. whatever topic you choose i suggest you to check the Associated Content directory, whether that material is already not common there. if you have more problems you pm me. i have good experience with AC. :)

If something happens in my everyday life that's really important, I write about it, like headrest stopping my head so I didn't break my neck in an accident. If nothing happens in my life, I search a topic I'm interested in, like recycling. Then I find one under the topic that I can write about. So I use what is already there. If I've exhausted that and still have no topic, then I cruise "Writers wanted." and see if there is something there. Once a week, I check out Market Place and the Contests to see if there is anything in either of those spots. Usually one of the above turns up something. Take are and good luck.
