Desktops and laptops are becoming very close in their capabilities it's a matter of what your primary use is for them. If you're traveling a lot and you need the computer to be accessible to you at all times, a laptop is the only way to go. But a desktop has more going for it in terms of cost, durability, and ease of maintenance. Laptops' biggest advantage is portability it also makes them more vulnerable. They're more likely to be dropped and broken, or lost, or stolen. You can probably store as much data on a laptop as on a desktop, but you probably wouldn't want to risk losing it all. Traditionally, desktops have had zero portability you only could access files located on your desktop computer from that computer. But that's changing; your desktop may stay in one place, but your files don't have to. USB (Universal Serial Bus) memory keys, small devices that plug in to your computer to extract or load data, let you move files from one computer to another quickly and easily. And wireless networks allow you to work on the same files from any other networked computer. Just as Internet capability is no longer a desktop vs. laptop decision point, features and functions are equivalent between the two, although desktops generally have better sound quality. The cost for a laptop is considerably higher than for a desktop with comparable speed and power. Although laptop prices are falling, you'll still pay hundreds of dollars more, Service and repair costs are much higher too. To get at the parts, laptops pretty much have to be taken apart. The parts themselves are more expensive, almost double, and labor costs more. With a desktop, you can just open the back or side panel and replace the parts. Because desktop components can be added or removed separately, unlike many laptops' all-in-one design, desktops can operate without some parts.

i prefer using a laptop because it's convenient and i can bring it everywhere i go. i can also use it for school works, etc. aside from that, my brother won't even dare to use it because he's not really comfortable in using a laptop when he's playing online games or either just surfing

I couldn't think life without laptop anymore. I have had it couple of years now and I just love idea that I can do my homeworks everywhere. Also if I have time to kill I just take my laptop and surf on internet. I don't take my laptop everytime with me, but when ever I go to school or longer trip my laptop will be with me.

Lenovo laptop - Lenovo laptop is one of my favorites alongside with IBM, the one I am using.
I prefer to use a laptop. The reason why I like it is the same as you have described in the discussion. It is convenient to carry to the place where we travel and I love the keyboard of the laptop rather than the keyboard of a desktop, which makes me type like a snail. The laptop that I am using now is an IBM one, an old one, yet still in good use.

Nowadays, you can do same task using a laptop or desktop. The thing is laptop is more convenient because you can bring it anywhere, and if you feel uncomfortable typing in the compressed keyboard, you can always use the keyboard adapter similar to a desktop.

I prefer my laptop to desktop. I have been using my laptop for more than three years. It is very convenient to carry and it doesn't take up too much space like desktop. I am used to it and love to use it very much. If I have to use a desktop, I type very slowly.

I love my laptop because it is portable... but I hate it for one reason and one reason only... I HATE VISTA! If there was a way that I could take Vista off my computer and put windows xp on it... id totally do it. But since I bought the computer with Vista on it... I dotn think I can... um.. "downgrade?" lol

All is better in his own way. Goodness of LAPTOP: 1. Portable, can be bring everywhere. 2. No required large space, because all in one. 3. Display very soft / nice to look. Goodness of Desktop: 1. Best for playing games. 2. More Natural in image. 3. Easy to upgrade or expandable. 4. Cheaper than LAPTOP in repair, service and sales cost. That's for my opinion.

i will weight both of them 50-50. both has its own advantages and disadvantages. if u have work at office from 10-6 pm, want to use big screens and want to do a lot of typing then Desktop are best. But if u are a marketing person, i mean, u have to move a lot to different place and doing a lot presentations, to work on different project while moving then laptop is the best companion as it is portable (as u said sanju). It all depends which type of work u are invovled with.
