yes, you are true that one must make friends but not to an extent that you are getting setbacks due to the friend. There are many instances similar to that you have quoted which we encounter in our lives but one thing is worth noticing that we can't just stop making friends or making them closer friends as we are all social and we need friends for our life. this is true for all and there is a way to make the friendship which is fruitful. Its our choice altogether to choose whom to make closer friends. So beware next time and try to make good friends and do help them when they need the help. I think they're both right, this person can not be considered a friend but a thief. I hope this incident would not dissuade you from having close friendships with anyone because not all people are like this person you are talking about.
