How can I stop my dog from barking?

It is not exactly my dog. It is my sister's dog. The dog will bark all day long when my sister is at work.
When she comes back the dog will just stop. The neighbors are getting nervous.
What should we do?

your sisters dog is longing for her presence, or maybe whenever your sister is at work the dog does not get the same treatment as when your sister is around, the best thing to calm the dog is to give the dog he attention he's getting from your sister.

my dog used to bark the whole time I was gone, I closed all the blinds on all the window and when he couldnt see what was going outside he stopped. I think that he eventually grew out of it though because now he only barks whensomeone knocks on my door.
