We recently went for a day out at Rivington Lake near Bolton in the North west of England. Its a lovely place to go, lots of nice walks and things to do. Its one of the meeting places for lots of bikers in the area so I can also meet up with some old friends while I'm there.
One of the landmarks next to the lake is Liverpool Castle, or a copy of it. It was built by Lord Leverhulme who owned the land at the time. It's what is known as a Folly because it has no significant use. This castle is a copy of the ruined real Liverpool Castle and as such was built as a ruin.
Do you have anything like this where you live or have you visited anything like it while on vacation?

Excellent description neilf49 of the location and the sight. We have plenty of such areas to where we go for a day out, but I cannot remember any thing rebuild from based on the ruins. We have an attractive tourist village namely Veli by the side of a lake, where some floating bridges and a lake resturant are set up. The park there is maintained in a very nice way with many sculptures and murals. By the way I am from India and my city is Thiruvananthapuram, capital of the state of Kerala in south most India.
