I absolutely adore the discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. I love how comical they are, while still tackling some pretty interesting topics.
My favorite novels are the "Witch" books (Equal Rites, Wyrd Sisters, Witches Abroad, Lords and Ladies, Maskerade, etc.) In large part because I truly adore Granny Weatherwax. (And Nanny Ogg makes such a great foil for her.)
Although, I must admit to being rather fond of the "Guard" books. (Guards! Guards, Men at Arms, Feet of Clay, Night Watch, Thud!, etc.) I really like the character of Sam Vimes, and the fact that he may be flawed, but is ultimately a very good man. (And the bit about him always getting home to read "Where's My Cow" I found an especially touching and fitting detail.

What ever novel that I've read I never tends for the gimmicks of the story, but always looking for the positive values that its contained. I couldn't say which one is the best, because every novelist they are in different values.
