Yesterday was August 18, my grandmother's birthday. She passed away many years ago, but I still remember her with love, as she was a possitive infuence in my life. In a way I am glad she is not with us anymore, as she used to live in Lima, Peru, a city that has not stopped trembling since a big earthquake hit it a couple of days ago. Hundreds of tremors have been reported since then, some over 6.0 in the Richter scale, so they were earthquakes in their own right.
The big earthquake was nearly two minutes long and that would have surely made my grandmother very nervous indeed. She would have also felt the suffering of the thousands left homeless when it is still winter and would have been sad to find out that Pisco has been severely affected, the town that gave its name to the national drink.
Yesterday we ate alcachofas (artichockes) for dinner and I could clearly remember the "pastel de alcachofas" that you used to prepare for us and I wish I had asked you for the recipe when you were with us!

Yes, my grandmother is always in my heart too, even though she has been gone for many years now, but I always think about her and not only when its her birthday! Actually, just yesterday my sister Sonia sent me a new picture of her I had not seen before and I am treasuring it!

I have just received something I would like to send to you. It is a little girl, who might be Chinese, and she is learning and being good at it too! I think she might give you inspiration, as she is so cute and good too! Please answer giving me your email address, so I can send it to you, it is a little film clip.
