My husband is studying in Wollongong and has been disappointed to discover that he can't find any authentic Australian dishes. Everything seems to borrowed from some other countries.
So, I need help from you Aussies out there. What are real Australian foods that I can make for him when he gets home? Or things that he can try while he's there...

Bangers and mash is sausage and potatoes, right?
I think he has really enjoyed the kangaroo, though he said some people in NSW seem to think that eating kangaroo is akin to eating bald eagle and he can respect that.
He's had some real fun getting used to the idea that burgers are chicken patties and not beef and that all squash are pumpkins. It's that American/Australian language barrier Lol...
What are rissoles?
He's also really enjoyed the Indian food influence, like the fact that he can get chicken tanddori on campus.

I just discovered last night that we have an Aussie pub not too far from where we live. I suspect they just serve typical pub food there, but we'll have to check it out at some point. Just as long as no one tries to make me drink Fosters. :)

My hubby is a displaced Australian and I always try to cook stuff from Australia to make him feel a little more at home. The Pavlova is a real Aussie food. It was a dessert created for the ballerina Pavlova. It is a meringue base with whip cream, passion fruit, bananas and strawberries and is just delicious. He also loves Vegemite sandwiches. White bread, cheddar cheese and Vegemite. I love Pavlova but the Vegemite is a bit too much for me.

The dessert sounds yummy! My hubby says Vegemite scares him. I'll try to find a recipe for the Pavlova though, 'cause it sounds delicious. Thanks!
