My toddler is almost 17 months old. Problem is that when I feed him, he takes the first few spoonfuls and then loses interest. He has rarely eaten an entire meal I have prepared for him. This is even when he has not eaten allday and I am worried because while he is healthy he is slim for a child his age. He is still breastfed, don't know if this is anything to do with it. He also prefer's shop bought babyfood to stuff I prepare and I give him this when I am particularly worried about his eating. Any suggestions or recipes gratefully received.

This one's tough, and you will probably get many, many different answers. The first thing is as long as your doctor say he is healthy do not stress. The stress will affect him and could cause him to eat even less. Now, the important thing to remember right now is children, up to the age of five have the ability to tell when the are full. It's best to never force a child to eat. Let them tell you when they are hungry. Does he have favorite foods? Will he eat fruit? What about popcicles that are all fruit with no sugar added? My daughter will be turning two in october and I have found there are days she eats us out of house and home (cantalope and peas that is), and then there are days she barely eats anything. It was worse when she was teething. Could this be the case with him? The best advice I received was to keep trying. Give him a little bite of this and that, and if he doesn't like it don't force it. Try it again the next time. But really, just remember, if he is healthy there is no need for concern. Just be patient and consistent. Hope this helps!

Thanks, you have given me some really good advice. Some days he seems to eat enough and other days...he eats v little. I guess you are right and trying to force him is a bad idea. Thanks again, you have helped.
