how do you feel when you see that the title of the discussion started is wrong grammar or really poor english? do you feel you dont want to respond to it when you dont get the point or the themes are not connected or you dont mind at all? can you recognize if the person you respond is really good in english language or is just trying hard to speak english? i myself is not good in english and its one of the reason why i love mylot because i tend to develop it in here since the medium here is english.but i dont know if the one i get to respond too is sensitive to my english or to other mylotters english? so how about you, do you also mind the english of your respondent here in mylot? is the ability of your respondent to state in a good english words and grammatical structure his/her respond one of your considered good quality respond here in mylot or again you dont mind at all? what can you say mate.......

I can't really judge the grammar of other users since English is not my first language. I have noticed that many people join Mylot thinking that it will be easy to just post some questions. These people sometimes have a poor English, or even none at all. If the question is really weird at the point that I don't know what it is all about, I just don't answer. Usually I try to answer but in some cases I know it is a lost case. That person may just leave Mylot after four or five posts.

I believe that as long as the though is clear, the message is delivered. However, it is frustrating and also quite annoying, when someone makes a long post without even making any sense. I came here 9 months ago, careful to use and choose every words I want to put in my posts because I want people to understand me, get my message clear and understandable by readers. I believe mylot will help people learn more about the language, just keep on participating and learn on what we see.

myLot is the first discussion forum I've joined. As realizing that my English is not good, I determined to use myLot as my English lab to improve it. I do mind the grammar though it just for an example. Then I knew there are many of myLotters whose English is not quite good, but they are communicative enough to be understood. That's OK I think, even I do the same! Lol! You know, I try quite hard to speak or write in English. It's not my daily language. I am learning from you all myLotters! Thanks Joshboz! Good posting!

I am often amazed at how good the English is of people who are on the 'Net. I often think of how good I am in Cantonese or Malay or even Dutch, which is to say not at all good. I have fibromyalgia and many times between brain fog or painful hands the typing of FM people is pretty bad. So, being fluent in fibro type I automatically read what the person MEANT to say rather than what they actually DID say. I'm glad to see the great effort put forth to use my native tongue and kudos to all those who try!

I will take them first JOSHBOZ. It's proven to me my dear best friend. If you know them you can ask them. You can see them in my friends' list. Since my birth date on myLot July 29, 2007; I've responded to more than 30 of newbies. You know why? Because I'm also a newbie here on myLot Mr Joshboz. The main thing we must encourage them. Just only one from The Great China, I'm failed to answer his question because really don't understand, and I commented to him please tell me what actually you want? He replied "I also don't know"......what a big laugh that I had...and he did re-replied to me by this words "ha..ha..ha", he copied my text...I'm laughing while typing this texts(actual time/date).....what a great myLot!!!! Anyway you are the BEST MALE active and good person on/in myLot so far...I vote for you, my dear!!! THE GREAT JOSHBOZ(cousin to G.W. Bush)

I don't mind the poor English, if I know what they are asking. Usually it is not that hard to figure it out. However, there was one discussion where the poster just said a few words, not a whole sentence and it didn't make sense. I asked over and over what he meant but he did not say anything that made it clear. That bothered me more than the quality of his English.

I don't really mind as long as I make out what the poster is trying to put across. But I feel with a little more effort, the worst chaps could effectively express themselves and in a better way. Basically, I appreciate that not everyone here is expected to know the English laguage like their first lingo.

I fully understand that many mylotters are not native english speakers. It is not a problem for me if their posted discussion or their response has bad grammar. Heck, I am a native English speaker and I often have bad grammar! To me, if the myLotter is getting their thoughts across and participating then that is what it is all about. The fun of myLot is seeing everyone's point of view on topics! The different viewpoints brought by those from various countries is what makes it wonderful!

no, i don't mind... as long as you can understand what he says, then it's fine.. nobody's perfect, right.. i have nothing to do with it, if that's the way he write his English then why not, etleast you understand what he tries to say and can express what he feel... good or poor english is both expressing what's inside us.. actually, whenever i encouter such thing, for me, it's a little bit catchy! hehehe.. anyway, let's just be thankful because we can write and speak English better than those who can't...i'm greatful, i'm not one of those who are poor in English speaking and writing. congratulations to both of us friend!

yes thank god we belong to a country that was colonize before by a western country but then again we are free. we have absorbed english from the americans and as lon as the alphabets are teached in our school then this will continue for us the filipino. they said our ability to speak english is one of our edge to other nations here in asia, just like india. so if ever i will have children in the near future i will assure them to have a good english skills.

I don't mind poor English at all as long as I can understand what the person is trying to say. Sometimes people post a discussion and I just cannot figure what they mean. I kind of feel bad for skipping over those discussions but trying to figure it out takes a lot of effort and some times I just don't have the energy. Grammar isn't all that important to me either. My grammar is not always perfect so I don't expect anyone else's to be perfect.

I think that most people here are able to respond well to the best of their ability. Agreed some arent that good in english and many even put on and try their level best to portray that they know it. No ones perfect, and we are all learning and like you say this is a good medium, maybe those who arent that well versed and make erors in their grammar and english, will gradually learn to be better here at mylot. It sure brushes us up. Yes, at first when i read discussions starting with poor english and lots of grammatical mistakes, it takes us a second to third reading to be able to understand what the person is trying to say, but i somehow do manage to make out the core of the matter, and understand that maye the person isnt that well versed in english, otherwise why would they write in such a way, but that doesnt hinder me from replying or commenting to their discussions, as i dont find it as a major issue, and tend to over look it. I do think that if your discussions are of good quality and content , along with proper english and language, maybe you are graded and paid better here, though am not sure, as i too am also rather new to mylot.

To be honest, you have owned the capability of using English. As far as I see, the importance of language is to communicate no matter how many errors you will make. There are some things in common among different languages.especially for native speakers, they are so familiar with their own language that they will understand your meanings very well, if you have the basic knowlege of language.I am not a native speaker. So I also have a lot of questions relative to grammer and pronunciation something like that. But I think as long as I try my best to practice, I will overcome the difficulties. So do not be upset!Come on!

Josh,It's nice that you are learning English and I have no objection to responding to those posts that are understandable. There are some people on Mylot that aren't up to speed with their proper use of grammer and it is difficult to understand the main objective of the Post. One should not assume that everyone will understand their topic if they don't provide some detail at the beginning of the post. You are correct that the proper grammatical structure is important when some creates a post.

how are you pismeof. its been a long time since i replied to you its because i am busy working in the outside world. hey thank you for your positive respond i guess one should also understand that we here in mylot comes from different countries and that not everybody speak english as there major language. but of course if you want to communicate try your best to speak the universal language-english. your right dear friend. hey by the way i dont know but im very poor in english when it comes on speaking it orally rather than writing it or encoding it.

Actually, I do not mind at all when ever a certain poster has started his topic with grammatical or spelling or typo errors. To me, it is understandable because not everyone here uses English as their first written or spoken language. What really counts or matters to me most is the content or substance of the discussion if it is comprehensible and of great interest to me, I would give my time to consider replying to such discussions.

Personally, I tend to notice errors in English like spelling and grammar and stuff, but I don't take it against the person since I tend to commit some of those mistakes myself. Its not really that important to me if the person's English is bad, as long as the post is interesting. You can't really help having errors in English here since Mylot is an international community and we have people from places where English is not the primary language and like the most of us, are using this site as another avenue for learning the language ;)

Sometimes I'd really like to respond to a topic but I have no idea what they are talking about. Sure it's English but they might as well be typing in Arabic because it makes no sense at all. I am a little sorry for them especially if no one responds because it's hard to understand what they are asking. I don't fault the person because English is not their first language. They are trying.
