Well, I guess my response to this question will have to be ... yes... and no LOL I am adopted, but I do have a sister. MY adoption was not very traditional in the sense that I did know my birth family thus I knew my sister as well. We never lived together thought, so I can be considered the only child.

Thank you for your response.
One of my friends is adopted like you.She is the only child too.She has been brought up by her parents very well and had a very happy childhood. But she do not know the whole thing until now.

I am an only-child and definitely disagree with the stereotypes. I think people with siblings are just jealous that they had to share their parents love and attention and their toys when they were growing up. I think of myself as advantaged in that I never had to compete for those things or feel less than someone else or feel replaced by a younger sibling.

You're welcome. I guess I must be in the minority. I never felt lonely as a child. I had so many other things to occupy my attention, like school, toys, and my older relatives, that I needed alone-time more than I needed more people.

i am an only child, and i don't think the disadvantages you mentioned belong to me. i reckon those depends on the person him/herself,have nothing to do with only child or not.besides, we live most time in shcool and boarding school, get well with friends,we are not the circle of this world, although i hope so.
