Hello, littlefish! for a normal person 6/7 hours sleep is necessary to give rest to the body and mind.rest is a must after a day's toil.since older people do not labor hard they sleep less and just the reverse in case of younger people.but in case of patients things are different.they are required to take adequate sleep, even 10 hours a day.thank you.

I believe is quite true that the amount of sleep is inversely proportional to the age of a person. Young people needs much time for their more active metabolism with respect to the growth of the body and the repairing of tissue. Whereas the old people do not need much energy for growth. So I think old people need only three to five hours per day. Whereas the younger need about 8 to 10 hours.

I think the amount of sleep depends on the person. I have asthma and there are days where my body is so tired from coughing that I could sleep ten hours a day and still be tired. When my asthma is not acting up I can make do with about six hours sleep. My husband is 62 years old and he is good with just six or seven hours of sleep as well. He is very active and has been doing well on this sleep. When he is off work and can sleep he usually doesn't. On the rare occations when he does get eight or nine hours sleep he feels like he has had no sleep at all. So you see too much sleep can be bad for you too. I have a cousin who needs a minumum of nine to ten hours of sleep a night. If she doesn't get it then she is very cranky. She has always been this way even when we were kids. This just goes to show that each person needs to figure out what their body needs in the way of sleep to make it feel good. There are always people telling you what is best for you but in trueth you must take the time and figure your own body out and what it needs. We are all different and need different amounts of sleep.

I would like to take a quick shower at first, and then enjoy my favorite books or magazines for a moment and last sleep. The way of relaxing for me is sleep.A nice sleep will help me to have enough energy for tune next day. I'm not afraid of the dark and I don't have nightmares so there is nothing to really be afraid of. The sounds outside help me to fall asleep, not keep me awake.
