Is time travel possible and are we really considering this now? Really?

I just wasted a few minutes of my life reading an article on yahoo about time travel and how it might be available sooner than we think. BUt only in the future. You mean to tell me that there are people out there in the world working and studying real hard on this when there are so many other important issues to deal with hear and now in the present? Things like world hunger, cure for aids or cancer, abuse and murder. We cannot find solutions to these but we can study and focus our energy and time on time travel. Interesting. I am not a big basher on future ideas, it just came as a shock to actually see it with my own eyes. It is one thing to hear about it in passing, but to see proof just makes me scratch my head and wonder. Does anyone honestly believe in the seriousness that time travel is coming? I am not counting out the day. One day in another few thousands year it could happen. But right now? Really?

That's umm...I'm speechless. I agree that we seem to have a few too many other important things going on right now to worry about something like that.
And what would they do with that technology once they had it? That's the really scary part. I mean if the could truly use if for good or for educational purposes only, like going back to STUDY history, then I guess that woul be alright. BUT seriously, can we honestly believe that people wouldn't use this to tweak history to make things more favorable for them or or their beliefs. Even monor changes could totally alter the world. And just imagine if someone used it for not so good purposes. I can think of lots of evil ways this kind of "technology" could be used.
I'm not totally against it eventually being a possibility but I don't think the world is ready for it right now.

Time travel is not "coming soon" nor will it ever be a possibility. There is even proof. It isn't here. If time travel existed, it would already, because someone from the future would have traveled back in time to our time, or before it, and viola, time travel! To take it a bit further: I could travel to a time in the future, when clumsy gunpowder-based weapons are a thing of the past, and pick up a crate of fully automatic uzis, as a curiosity. Then, I could travel back in time, to the time of the privateers, and after a short demonstration, sell the crate to a group of pirates for a hefty amount of gold. Then, I could bring the ancient pirate gold back to my time, and sell it for a nice profit, both in terms of the price of gold, and the antiquity factor. And the best part is, if time travel ever was to become a possibility, then I could do this. Because someone would visit this time period, eventually, (remember, we have the entire future, effectively infinite time, for someone to decide he wants to visit the 2000s) and then I could harness the power of time travel. Heck, forget the uzis and pirate gold, I would just pick up a stack of time travel machines/devices, and sell those, now. I could make a killing. So in other words, forget your paradoxes, the fact that time travel does not exist now, proves that it will never exist.

I don't think time travel is possible -- It would lead to a lot of paradoxes and stuff.
