How do you get a lazy cat to lose weight?

My cat rarely plays on her own. She always meows by her food fish, and my family won't stick to a feeding plan or anything. My mom always says "feed the cat" when she meows. She doesn't even check to see if that is what she needs, but she always eats the food in her dish. What to do?

Animals are no different than people when it comes to loosing weight - eat less and exercise more. If you can't get your family to stick to a meal schedule then you're going to have to find a way to exercise your cat.

fat cat - Depriving something you love, food, makes you feel guilty.
My cat is a fixed stray, she likes outside, climbs, chases, stays outside while I am at work. She comes in before dark, small can of can food and she nibbles on dry the rest of the night. Food is not important to her. She will not eat scrapes either. A climbing post, they have the ones that you can built slowly, if you have an extra room, I've seen one that has taken over someone's living room too. It looks kind of neat, but they are young too. The have diet cat food. Keep the food put up, so it's not so easy to get too for other member of the family. Disguise it in a coffee can or canister.
