Sitting in traffic at a red light, what are we thinking off?

Did you ever notice, when you are sitting on traffic waiting for the red light to change to green, go signal, that when the person in the car in front of you pulls up a couple of inches, you are compelled to move up too? Why is that? What are we thinking of?
Come to think of it, do we really think we are making progress toward our destination?
"Whew! I thought we would be late, nut now that I'm nine inches closer, I can stop for a coffee at starbucks."
Isn't it funny what we sometimes do? What do you say?

Hi eprado! Yes, I do noticed that and we do move forward too. I guess, it's silly as if you're going to lessen the time or distance of where your destination is. LOL! Maybe, it's because we are kinda bored just sitting there so at least you're doing something even with just moving a little distance will somehow cure a little of that boredom. Take care and have a nice day!
